No. 09 22 March 2018 This is our last newsletter of the term. As we head into the final week of school for term one it is worth remembering the messages about student attendance. Our school seeks to maintain a 96% attendance rate and we rely on parent assistance to achieve this target. As a school we have never endorsed prizes or incentives for attendance as we believe there are times when students who are unwell would force themselves to come to school sick in order to receive an award or certificate. There are times when it is definitely appropriate to remain home to rest and recover when very unwell, as well as to prevent illness spreading across our campus. We are very pleased to report that our attendance rate for 2018 is 96.8% to date. This is an improvement on 2017 attendance at the same time of year. In 2018 no time has been lost to suspensions for behaviour breaches, which is also very positive. We congratulate our students on this very positive start to 2018 and thank them for their cooperation and positive efforts. Only eight students in year 4-6 and two students in prep to year 2 have been referred to the responsible thinking room this year. Thirty-six formal warnings have been issued for inappropriate behaviours which include verbal misconduct, physical misconduct, refusal to participate in classroom instruction, or being noncompliant with routines. Parent contact has been made to discuss concerns and we appreciate the support received from parents to encourage positive school behaviour. Together we can support our learners to make good choices. Leisa Neaton, Principal Frenchville State School acknowledges the Darumbal people as the traditional custodians of the place we now call our school. We pay our respects to the Elders past and present and are proud to be supporting and encouraging emerging Indigenous leaders every day. Student Absence Line Prep Intake 2019 As per the Enrolment Management Plan, only students whose principal place of residence is within the school s catchment area will be eligible for enrolment at the school. Students who are siblings of current students at the school are also deemed eligible for enrolment. We are therefore requesting that younger siblings of students that will be current in 2019 who are eligible for prep in 2019 complete the enrolment forms and lodge with the office as soon as possible. A reminder of the age rules for prep 2019: If you have a child born from 1 July 2013 30 June 2014 he/she is eligible for prep enrolment in 2019 at Frenchville State School. Please complete an enrolment form and return it to Frenchville State School. FOR ENROLMENT FORMS: www.frenchviss.eq.edu.au. Click on the Enrolment section from the main menu to download forms. For more information please call the school on 49315333. Reading Knights Read Every Knight Have you started your Reading Knights routine again? Remember, Reading Knights read every night. We encourage all students to become involved in this wonderful program which helps build a love of reading and solid reading routines. Reading over Easter is an excellent way to make progress towards Reading Knight goals. Students who love reading encounter more vocabulary and transfer this vocabulary to their school reading and writing activities. For more details, see Ms Olive or Mrs Rosenberg at the TWiST or look on our website. Our Reading Knights ceremony will held on 28 March at 12 noon. Invitations to this term's Reading Knights Ceremony will go home today with students. The movie for this celebration will be "Wonder". Safe Walking to School Students are reminded to avoid bouncing balls on the footpath when walking to and from school. We had a reported incident on Geordie St this week where a basketball was being bounced on the footpath and the ball went out onto the road. The student fortunately didn t chase it but the potential for danger is certainly there if a child follows the ball out onto the busy road. Bus Service Change Due to Queen s Baton Relay Event We have been advised of a service change due to the Queen s Baton Relay Event impacting the following bus services: S458 Yeppoon Road This temporary change in boarding point will only occur from 1.00 PM on Friday 23 rd March 2018. Due to the closure of Berserker St, High Street, Musgrave Street for the Queens Baton Relay event, coupled with the changed traffic conditions in Rockhampton and the early closure of North Rockhampton High School. Youngs Bus Service wish to advise it has been necessary to change the timetable for the departure time of the Rockhampton to S458 Yeppoon Road. Revised Timetable

More Attendance Data Statistics for 2018 Attendance rates for each year level so far are as follows: Prep 97.6% Year One 97.1% Year Two 97.1% Year Three 96.6% Year Four 96.9% Year Five 96.7% Year Six 96.3% Great effort Frenchville students and parents. These statistics are very positive. Let s keep it up in term two! Free Dress Day Student Council Student Council will conduct a free dress day on the last day of this term Thursday 29/3. The theme is crazy colours and all money will be given to the Melanoma/Cancer research. All the usual expectations for free dress apply clothing must be sunsafe clothing, students must wear closed footwear, school hats, and no offensive language/slogans on clothing. A gold coin is payable for this event. Year 6 Easter Raffle Once again our year six students are running an Easter Raffle to raise money for the upcoming Canberra Trip. Each ticket costs $1 each and can be purchased directly from one of our senior students, or from the office. ALL money and ALL tickets (sold or unsold) MUST be returned by Monday 26 March 2018. Parent teacher interviews All teachers are offering parent teacher interview timeslots for parents in the remaining weeks of term and/or first fortnight of next term. We encourage all parents to take this twenty minute opportunity to meet with the teacher and hear about student progress, how students are tracking towards their individual goals and cohort targets and how they are applying themselves to their work (effort rating on the report card) as well as how they are behaving in and out of class. Please understand that teachers have been asked to restrict interviews to 20 minutes so they are able to offer as many interviews as possible and manage their existing workload too. Teachers are well prepared and able to give you a good indication of how your child is going in class in the available timeslot. Please enquire about what you can do at home to assist your child.
