A 2Cl s ABC s of Second Grade Agendas- We will use agendas (aka homework planners) daily to record homework assignments and important reminders. Please check your child s agenda each day. Anti-bullying- The district has implemented procedures supporting the Anti-bullying law. Mrs. Cline and Miss Wolfe also teach character education and anti-bullying lessons and activities in the classroom. Art- We have art class on Day 2. The art teacher is Mrs. Attri. Attendance- School starts at 9:00am. Students may arrive beginning at 8:45am (unless in a morning program). It is important that your child is in school all day. If your child is absent, please send a note when your child returns! B Birthdays- We love to celebrate birthdays in Room 214! However, please do not send balloons, party invitations, or goodie bags to the classroom. We will celebrate with a snack and drink (if provided) and a song! Book orders- I will send home book club offers from Scholastic periodically. You can order with a check or

online at www.scholastic.com. Our class activation code is H48CN. Breakfast Program- Children are welcome to arrive at Parkway at 8:20am to purchase breakfast and eat in the cafetorium. C Communication- The best ways to contact Mrs. Cline are an email at lcline@ewingboe.org or sending a note with your child. However, you can also leave a voicemail at (609)538-9800 x8588. Computers- We have computers on Day 5. The computer teacher is Mrs. Morrell. Conferences- Parent/teacher conferences will be held for every student in October and November. Additional conferences will be held in February for some students (on an as-needed basis). Parents are welcome to request a conference at any time if there is a question or concern! D Dean of Students- The Dean of Students at Parkway School is Mr. Callea. He is also the Anti-Bullying Specialist. Dismissal- The school day ends at 3:40pm. Students who ride the bus are dismissed first, followed by EDP and Dismissal Program students. All others will walk to the 2Cl

pawprint in front of the building to walk home or be picked up. Please arrive promptly at 3:40pm! E Extended Day Program (EDP)- The EDP program is available before and after school for a cost. Children must be registered in advance. F Field trips- The Parkway PTA provides funds for all grades to attend a field trip throughout the year. The field trip will be announced later in the year. Folders- Folders are a necessity in second grade! Please be sure to clean out your child s homework folder regularly. Keep any papers on the keep side and send back papers on the return side. Friday Folder- The Friday Folder is a special folder that will be sent home each Friday with your child s papers from the week: corrected homework, weekly reports, papers that need to be signed and returned, and any work that needs correcting. Please look for this on Fridays and return it on Monday with any papers that need to come back to school. G Guidance Counselor- The guidance counselor at Parkway School is Miss Wolfe.

Gym- We have gym on Days 1 and 4. The gym teachers are Mr. Johnson and Ms. Radler. Don t forget to wear sneakers! H Homework- Homework will be assigned almost daily in second grade. Second graders have approximately 20 minutes of homework along with a reading log. I Instant Alert- The Honeywell Instant Alert System is used to inform the community of emergencies, school information, and activity information. Please be sure to keep your information updated. Intervention & Referral Services (I&RS)- These meetings occur to discuss a child s progress in academic and/or social areas. J K L Library- We have library on Day 6. Our media specialist is Ms. Grant. Don t forget to return your library book!

M Music- We have music on Day 3. Our vocal music teacher is Mrs. Hall-Carney. N Newsletter- Mrs. Cline will send home and post online a bi-weekly newsletter featuring information about our studies, as well as important dates and events. Nurse- The nurse at Parkway School is Mrs. Kocubinski. Mrs. Jennings also works in the nurse s office. O P Parent Notifications- Parent notifications are progress reports that are sent home as needed regarding skills, homework, and/or behavior. Parkway- Parkway School s mascot is the panther, and our school colors are blue and gold. Our school song is Parkway Will Shine Tonight. Parkway PTA- The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) works to provide enrichment activities, socials, field trips, and more to the Parkway community.

PayForIt.net- This is a website that allows you to check your child s food service account and deposit money to the account. You need your child s ID number and a credit or debit card. Principal- The principal of Parkway School is Mrs. Harris. Q R Recess- The children will have recess each day after lunch. If there is inclement weather, recess will be inside. Renaissance Learning/STAR tests- These are computer-based assessments that all children in 2 nd grade complete multiple times a year in reading and math. Report cards- Report cards will be sent home 4 times this year. For the first, second, and third marking periods, students will need to return the envelope for the following marking period. Rocket Math- Students will participate in timed math tests two days each week.

S Snack- We will have snack time each day. Children must bring in their own healthy snacks. I only provide snacks on special occasions. Spanish- We will complete Spanish activities on various topics as part of the World Languages Requirements. We learn vocabulary, songs, and more! T Tel-Safe- If your child is absent, please call Tel-Safe to report the absence by calling (609)538-9800 X5102 before 9:30am. U V Virtual backpack- The virtual backpack is on the Parkway website and features flyers for school and community events. W Website- The Ewing Public Schools and Parkway websites are full of important information! Also, please check out Mrs. Cline s teacher webpage often.

Weekly Update- The weekly update is an email sent once a week that provides information on the latest additions to the Virtual Backpacks and Mrs. Cline s website. You will have an opportunity to sign up to receive this weekly email at Back to School Night. X XtraMath.org- Xtra Math is an online math program the students will use to assist them in mastering their math facts. It is also available for use at home. Y Z
