Complete 26 course credits (CHS Specific: Pg. 12 of the CHS Course Planning Handbook) Take 7 required state tests in core subjects Earn diploma through 1 of 3 options: Will detail later in the presentation

Complete 26 course credits Our District s Course Requirements English Language Arts Mathematics Science Social Studies Health Physical Education World Language, Fine Art, or Computer/Business Technology Electives Units Required 4 Units 4 Units 3 Units 3 Units 1/2 Unit 1/2 Unit 1 Unit 10 Units

State End of Course Exams EOC (End of Course Exams): Formally known as Ohio s Next Generation Assessments are now just called End of Course Exams. EOC s replaced the OGT as the required state exam in 2014-2015 (the freshman year of the Class of 2018). OGTs: 5 exams you had to pass each with a 400 or better. EOCs: 7 exams over 2 years 700 to pass but you don t have to pass all to graduate. It is about point values rather than passing tests. AIR (American Institute for Research): Testing Company Same testing company that produced the OGT. TIDE (Test Information Distribution Engine): Online Platform ODE (Ohio Department of Education) has chosen to deliver AIR based state assessments.

Class of 2018: Take seven required state tests 1. English I 2. English II 3. Algebra I 4. Geometry 5. Biology or Physical Science 6. American History 7. American Government

Class of 2019 and Beyond: Take seven required state tests 1. English I 2. English II 3. Algebra I 4. Geometry 5. Biology 6. American History 7. American Government

State End of Course Exams: Scoring Exams Scoring: Students can earn from 1-5 points for each exam, based on their performance. Requirement for Graduation: Minimum of 18 points collected out of the 7 assessments which are graded on a 1-5 scale. When a student reaches 18 graduation points overall, he or she becomes eligible for a diploma. Performance Level Grad. Points Advanced 5 Accelerated (725+) Proficient (700=Passing) 4 3 Basic 2 Limited 1

State End of Course Exams: Scoring Exams 4 4 6 Earn at least four points on English tests Earn at least four points on math tests Earn at least six points for science and social tests

Retaking State End of Course Exams at CHS Full Block Schedule High Schools: These high schools are able to take advantage of two testing windows and assess students at the conclusion of the course (or close to it) rather than full year course high schools which can only assess during the Spring Testing Window prior to the completion of any courses. Full Block High Schools: Assess students eleven (11) times prior to graduation date. Full Year High Schools: Assess maximum of eight (8) times prior to graduation date. A student who has met all of the EOC testing requirements may request to retake exams of their choice by making a written request to the guidance office. Students who reach minimum graduation requirements will not be obligated to continue to take exams after taking all 7 nor will the school seek out these students to retest. We will be selective in scheduling retakes for exams at CHS

Retaking State End of Course Exams at CHS Before retaking exams a student will first: Take all 7 exams Fail to achieve the necessary total of 18 points And/or fail to achieve minimum point totals for specific subjects. ELA (4 points) Math (4 points) Social Studies/Science (6 points). And be assigned to a Lab Course at CHS or APEX tutorials for test preparation opportunities. Why take this approach? It is NOT the individual scores on one test that defines graduation status. Retake opportunities include: Fall Block administration (December) Spring administration (April) Summer administration (June). A student will use the higher score of any end-of-course test taken for meeting graduation requirements.

Three Graduation Options 18 points on state tests 4-4-6 minimums on subsections of state tests College readiness score on national test: ACT English 18 or higher, Math 22 or higher, Reading 22 or higher ACT given to students for free Spring of your Junior Year at CHS. Industry certification and a work-readiness score on WorkKeys This option is best suited for students attending the Pickaway-Ross Career Technology Center (PRCTC) or taking advantage of Senior Credentialing Courses through PRCTC.

Questions over Part I? Part I: Graduation Requirements Course Work/Credits Earned End of Course Exam Requirements Graduation Options

Part II: State End of Course Exams Breakdown of the Test

Length of EOC s Students are tested in four subject areas: English (English I and English II), math (Algebra I and Geometry, science (Biology or Physical Science [option for the Class of 2018 only), and social studies (American Government and American History). How long is a test? Students have a total of: 180 (3 hours) minutes to complete the Algebra I, Geometry, American History, American Government, and Biology exams. 210 minutes (3.5 hours) to complete ELA I and ELA II exams Each test has 2 parts: CHS students will complete both parts in one test session/day. Each part you will have roughly 90 (1.5 hours) minutes to complete.

Fall Testing Window: 2016 ALL SUBJECTS: DEC. 7-9 7:30-9:55 am is our testing times. Students who need additional time beyond 9:55 am may have it as long as you make the teacher proctor aware. You will be moved to room 237 or room 239 to finish your exams so take your time. This isn t a race. Your graduation is at stake. Exams will be online via our Google Chromebooks. Districts will only have 10 consecutive school days for testing within the testing period provided. Make-Up Exams: Dec. 12-16

Spring Testing Window: 2016 ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS: APRIL 7 MATH, SCIENCE, SOCIAL STUDIES: APRIL 24-26 Exams will be online via our Google Chromebooks. Districts will only have 10 consecutive school days for testing within the testing period provided. 7:30-9:55 am is our testing times. Students who need additional time beyond 9:55 am may have it as long as you make the teacher proctor aware. You will be moved to room 237 or room 239 to finish your exams so take your time. This isn t a race. Your graduation is at stake.

Block Scheduling at CHS Benefits of Block Scheduling: Two Testing Windows (Fall and Spring) Students are only tested on subjects they are taking at the time of the testing window. Allows for students to focus on two core subjects at a time and test on only those. Rather than testing on all four subjects at the end of the year. Unless you have already taken all 7 exams and are retaking an exam after taking a lab course or online tutorial you only take exams at the end of a semester for courses you are currently in.

Essentials for Testing Days Take Practice Tests Seriously: Dec. 1-6 This will happen in all tested subjects prior to real test days. Bring your Chromebook fully charged each test day. Best Effort on Every Question of Every Exam. Complete all Questions. Even if you don t know the answer still answer. Restate the question and attempt an answer on an essay. Multiple choice questions at least guess. Head Phones: Text to Speech Options. No electronics in testing rooms. Turned off and put away. Buses will run normal times. Main Gym=Study Hall
