Maroubra Junction Public School Newsletter T2 W5 Thursday 25 May 2017 CALENDAR Week 5 May 25 Yr 5 Afternoon of Notables May 26 PSSA Rnd 2 May 26 School Disco Week 6 June 1 P&C meeting @ 7pm June 2 5H & 5T Assembly Principal s Report Eco Mates As part of the Student Leadership initiative a number of our year 5 students have become ECO MATES. Their focus will be on keeping our environment beautiful and healthy. We met 2 weeks ago to discuss their vision and strategies to implement this. Some amazing ideas were shared. On Monday we moved mulch, weeded, watered and planted a 19 year old palm tree (donated by the Maraz family, thank you). So much fun! A few of our eco Mates calculated their environmental footprint. A great exercise we urge all families to do. Week 7 June 9 P&C Cake Stall Round 4 ESPSSA Friday Disco Our first school disco will be held this coming Friday night (26/5). As usual, this will be split into two sessions Infants 5.30-6.45pm Primary 7-8.30pm In order to assist us with supervision, this disco will be a drop off and pick up event we ask that parents bring their child/ren to the hall door for entry, and then return at the end of their session for pick up. Teachers will be supervising the disco and will ensure that students are safe and comfortable at all times. No children will be permitted to leave the hall at any time during their session without teacher permission. This is a move to keep all our children safe as the evening quickly becomes dark and we have had accidents in the past on the paddock and play equipment at evening events. At the end of the session, lights will go on and children will be asked to sit down in the hall and wait for their parents. Parents are requested to come into the hall to collect their child. We thank you in advance for your understanding of and assistance with this. We know your children will have a fantastic time.. Uniform shop volunteers needed. 2018 Kindergarten Enrolments Do you have a child who turns five years of age before 31 July 2018 and will be ready to start school? Now is the time to complete an Application for Enrolment form. You can do this by picking up an application form from the office The uniform shop is wholly run by the P&C and provides a significant proportion of money to our annual fundraising. Our volunteers are essential to the smooth running of the uniform shop please consider helping out. The shop is open for two, half hour timeslots Tuesdays and Friday 8.45-9.15am. We would need about 45 minutes of your time on either of those mornings, on average 3 4 times per term. If interested, please leave your name and contact details at the uniform shop, the front office or via email to mjpsuniformshop@gmail.com Have a great weekend. Helen Te Rata 1

Toys at School Sometimes, bringing a toy to school can be a topic of lively discussion: however, it is often difficult to keep track of who has what, and where the toys are at any given time. To ensure that students are not disappointed or learning is not disrupted, we ask that personal toys are to be played with at home as they tend to get broken or damaged and even sometimes simply disappear at school. However, books and playing or collectable cards that are suitable are welcome. Please name these clearly. Trading of collectable cards is discouraged at school. Toys can be brought in for your child to talk about as a news topic. They will be asked to keep the toy in their bag before and after their news. Maroubra Junction PS has some great toys accessible to our students in the playground. These include -: balls, skipping ropes, Tonka Trucks, buckets, spades, fairies and more. We continue to investigate engaging playground opportunities for our students. Safety Around Schools Can all members of the community please be reminded of the guidelines below to ensure that all students and community members are safe around our school? All students should wear helmets and protective clothing if riding a bike or skooter to and from school. Walk your skooter through the playground Skooters are to be stored at the school s bike rack just inside Gate 1 off Storey St Use Gates 1 (Storey St), 2 and 3 (Loch Maree St), 5 (Moverley Rd) and the ANZAC pde gate for entering and exiting the school grounds before 9am and after 2.30 pm. The car park is not a safe entry or exit point. Please ensure that students and adults use the pedestrian gates. Please read the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority guidelines for Safety Around Schools http://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au/downloads/safety-around-schools.pdf 2018 Kindergarten Enrolments Do you have a child who turns five years of age before 31 July 2018 and will be ready to start school?
