I hope we all have an enjoyable and productive 11 weeks together especially our Yr. Six students who move into secondary school next term! Like most of us I found getting back to work a bit of a drag but was soon cheered up when I met up with other staff and students yesterday morning. October: The Month of the Rosary (Prayed 10 minutes before home-time in the Assembly Room) Please join us as we pray a decade of the Rosary before the end of the school day. The Rosary assists us to pray and reflects upon Our Lady in the life of Jesus. St Gabriel s School Summer Uniform: Students asked to be in Summer Uniform by Monday November 3 rd. Children are able to wear winter or summer uniform during October. Black School shoes are worn all year!!! School Closure: St Gabriel s School will be closed on Friday November 07. All staff will be attending the third day of their Professional Development in Unpacking the Australian Curriculum-General Capabilities presented by Catholic Education Office Melbourne at the Treacy Centre, Parkville. St Gabriel s Great Washing Afternoon Thursday October 9 th 2014 Just a reminder: Completed tea towels & pegs along with the fabric markers should be returned to school tomorrow, Wednesday October 8 th. We hope you enjoyed working on your tea towels during the school holidays. After school this Thursday October 9 th all families are invited to participate in the St Gabriel s Great Washing Afternoon! Clothes lines will be strung up around the poles in the bottom yard and all families can peg their tea towels on the line. Format for St Gabriel s Great Washing Afternoon Thurs Oct 9 th 3:30pm End of School day 3:45 5pm Pegging out the tea towels! Sausage sizzle Students and Staff Annual Netball Game 5pm Finish Growing Together in Life and Love Program and Open Doors Counselling and Educational Services STAY CONNECTED During Term 4 students from Prep to Year 6 will be involved in the Growing Together in Life and Love Program. Last term a letter was sent home to all families inviting parents to a Parent Education Seminar on Monday October 13 th 2014 in the Assembly Area from 7pm 8:30pm. The letter explained a great deal of information from the Catholic Education Office, Archdiocese of Melbourne and Open Doors Counselling and Educational Services regarding the importance of parents being the first educators of their children. It has been said that the media, who loves your child the least, tells them the most about growing up, puberty and the teenage years while you who love your child the most may often tell them the least! How do you respond when your child asks a question about these topics? Do you worry about the teen years ahead? Do you sometimes feel you have no voice when it comes to sharing your values about appropriate behaviour and expectations? Please complete the reply slip to let us know if you will be attending. ST GABRIEL S ELECTION DAY FETE In conjunction with the State Election, we will be having a fete on Saturday 29 th November. Market stalls, rides and food. To register your interest to have your own market stall, please contact Dominique Commisso on 0433 434 656 or email stgabrielsprimary@outlook.com For the St Gabriel s community a standard market stall costs $20. For everyone else the cost is $30. SECOND HAND SCHOOL UNIFORMS Any second-hand, unwanted uniforms can now be donated in a box next to the Lost Property Box. Uniforms must be the current blue school uniform and in good condition. The P&F Committee will organise a day where second-hand uniforms are available for all parents to purchase at discounted prices, later in the term. P&F COMMITTEE MEETING New Members always welcome The next P&F Committee Meeting will take place this Wednesday 8 th October, 9am in the P&F/Playgroup room. The topic is 'Community Classrooms: Engaging families in learning at home and school'. The purpose of this activity is to develop ideas in order to improve family engagement in children's learning at St Gabriel's and to workshop ideas about how we can make this easier for families.
