Regional Spelling Bee Finals On Tuesday, our school was represented at the Regional finals of the Premier's Spelling Bee. All our students performed well. In the Junior competition (Years 3 & 4) Leilanie Taylor and Issac Tsui both finished in the top 15, an excellent result. In the Senior competition (Years 5 & 6) Macklan Cook finished in the top 40 in the region and Madison Brown finished in the top 24 in the region. Great Student Work This week, I again had the privilege to view some of our student s work. Well done to Ashton, Alex, Audrey and Lynnae from 1N for their outstanding writing. Keep up the tremendous work. Christian Steger from our Wattle class visited me this week to show me his outstanding project on Zaglossus Hacketti which is an extinct species of long-beaked echidna from Western Australia. Well done Christian, excellent work! Public Speaking Earlier in the term students from all grades competed in the Dapto Learning Community's Public Speaking. Sian Luck and Kayla Kelly were both winners of their prospective competitions. Both girls presented their speeches to the students of Dapto and Kanahooka High School. Although it was nerve racking for both they displayed confidence and spoke most eloquently. Well done girls. High School Transitions Over the next couple of months our Year 6 students will transition into high school. There will be a number of opportunities for the students to visit the high school, participating in lessons. For those students involved, there will be letters coming home. Year 6 camp In the first week of next term Year 6 will be heading to Myuna Bay for their camp. All relevant information will be sent home this week in preparation for next term. NAPLAN results There has been a printing difficulty Australia wide with the 2013 NAPLAN results. Some of the information was incorrect, consequently results have been held up. As soon as the school receives student results, they will be sent home to parents of Years 3 and 5. New Uniform There have been a few enquiries about the new uniform and when it will be on sale. The new uniform will be on sale at the beginning of 2014. It is planned to open the uniform room in the last week of the Christmas holidays to allow new kindergarten parents as well as others to purchase the uniforms. There will be a 2 year implementation as we allow old uniforms to be 'worn out'. There will be a display up in the front foyer next term to show the final product. Learning Survey There is a survey included in this newsletter about learning here at Dapto. It would be much appreciated if you could complete the survey and return it to the office by the end of week 1 next term.
