Art Department Mrs. Monica Bailow is formerly from Garden City, New York. She has been teaching Visual Arts for 25 years. Monica s first teaching experience was teaching elementary and middle school art in Queens, New York. The past 17 years she has taught High School Visual Art at the Benjamin School and Suncoast High School. Mrs. Bailow received her B.S. from Buffalo State College, N.Y. and her M.S. from CW Post College, Brookville, N.Y. in Art Education K-12. Her expertise is in watercolor and acrylic paint. When not painting, Monica is busy travelling. Her greatest accomplishment is being a mother of four and grandmother of three. Mathematics Department Ms. Ares hold a BS in Industrial Engineering & Operations Research from Virginia Tech and an MS in Systems Engineering from the University of Memphis. After a career in international Marketing and Communications in a Fortune 100 company, she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of teaching Math. She has taught in the Public School system and is now very excited to join the Cardinal Newman family. She attended Catholic schools for her elementary and high school education as did everyone else in her family, so she feels like she s coming back home. Ms. Ares moved to Palm Beach almost three years ago, having lived in Broward County most of her adult life. She has two daughters and in her spare time she loves to travel, read and dance. Her goal for every student who enters her class is that they become better problem solvers and understand Math concepts. When she s asked, "When am I ever going to use this?", her answer is, "We're learning problem solving and you will use that for the rest of your life!"
Administration Dean of Students Mr. Wesley Logsdon joins the Newman Faculty as Dean of Students. He has earned the following degrees: BA. - Business Administration, Juris Doctor, & Masters in Educational Leadership and Administration. He was a teacher and coach for three years in Clermont, Fl. at East Ridge High School before moving back home to West Palm Beach where he spent the last eight years at The Benjamin School. Mr. Logsdon taught World History, Government, and law at Benjamin. He was also a head coach of baseball and golf as well as an integration specialist for the school. When not at school, Mr. Logsdon enjoys spending time with his family - wife Sara, & three daughters: Ava (7), Olivia (6), & Evelyn (22 Months). When time allows he loves coaching, playing golf, anything outdoors, and photography. Spanish Department Mr. Joe Molina will be teaching Spanish I and II. Mr. Molina graduated from Earlham College with a Bachelors in History and later earned his Masters of Arts in Teaching. Mr. Molina enjoys being Cardinal Newman s Head Football Coach and as a 2008 graduate from Newman, he says it s great to be home. Mr. Molina also enjoys spending time with his wife and traveling to different countries. They have been to Canada, St. Thomas, the Bahamas and Tortola.
English Department Patrick Hansen is new to our English Department and will also be assisting in the Dean s Office. Locally, he has 10 years of teaching experience at both Rosarian Academy and St. Mark s Episcopal School and he and his wife, Cara, have spent time teaching in Kenya as well. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Davis and his Masters in Educational Leadership at Florida Atlantic University. His passions include spending time with his wife and four children, playing music, and kayak fishing. Religion Department Mr. Steven Reep has earned both his Bachelors Degree and Masters in Divinity from Palm Beach Atlantic University. He has previously worked as a Youth Group Leader at St. Mark's, a religion teacher at St. John Paul II Academy, and has been published multiple times in the Christian Research Journal. In his spare time, he enjoys scuba diving, traveling and going on beach runs with his husky. This summer Mr. Reep attended a Mission Trip, through Pura Vida Missions, leading a Youth Group to San Ramon, Costa Rica. During this trip he and his students painted a local Orphanage, installed a seesaw for a community playground, and led local children in a free Vacation Bible School.
Mr. Chris Barulic is a West Palm Beach native who grew up at the Jersey shore in Seaside Park, NJ. He is a graduate of Salisbury University where he played baseball and was named the 1997 team MVP. Mr. Barulic also holds an M.B.A. degree in Sport Management from FAU. His prior teaching experience includes St. Mark Catholic School (2009-2013) and most recently St. Vincent Ferrer (2015-2018) where he served as Athletic Director, Boys Coach and Dean of Discipline. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Mr. Barulic enjoys sports, fishing and the beach. Faculty Hired in January of 2018: Science Department Mrs. Christine Granados is starting her 2nd year teaching at Cardinal Newman High School. She joined the Newman Faculty in January. She grew up outside Baltimore, Maryland and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology Degree from Salisbury University in 1996. She worked on her Masters in Molecular Marine Biology at Florida Atlantic University, and had the opportunity to do her research at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution in Ft. Pierce, FL. This year, she will be teaching General and Honors Biology, and Marine Biology. Additionally, she is the co-advisor for the Green Club. 4-year-old son, Benjamin. Mathematics Department Mr. Freire joined the Newman Faculty in January 2018. Mr. Freire was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, but he also lived in Chile for more than 12 years. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Guayaquil (Ecuador) and a M. Sc. in Statistics from the University of Valparaiso (Chile). Mr. Freire is working on his Ph. D. thesis in Statistics. He has more than 20 years of teaching experience in Statistics and Mathematics both in high schools and universities. He is also a Math and Statistics tutor at Palm Beach State College, Lake Worth.
