School Assemblies Term 1 2017 Week Hosting Class 10 (27/3/17) 3K 11 (3/4/17) Student Leaders Mondays 2-3pm in the school hall Just a reminder, children should not be at school prior to 8:30am unless they are participating in a planned activity. Teachers are not on duty until 8:30am. Recently we have been noticing an increasing number of children arrive at school prior to 8:30am and left in the playground unsupervised. To monitor child safety, all entrances into the school will be closed until 8:30am. -------------------------------------------------------- Stewart House Bags have been sent home for clothing donations to Stewart House. The next clothing collection date is: Tuesday 28 th March 2017 Please return bags to the school prior to the pick-up date. From the Principal s Desk The National Ride2School Day event was another fun event despite the wet weather. Thanks to Lydia, Mr Finch and the team for organising this annual event. ONLY the NEW Silver gates on Mort St will be open prior to 8:30am to access the school grounds. To assist parents, the school does have a BEFORE school care service run by Helping Hands who will gladly welcome your child s enrolment into their morning program. When wet weather occurs in the morning, children should be taken directly to their classroom after arriving at school after 8:30am. A teacher will be present to supervise your child until 9am when classes commence for the day. Conversely, No children should be in the school grounds after 3:15pm unless participating in a planned activity or enrolled in the Helping Hands After School Service. Congratulations to all everyone who got into the spirit and theme of the day and BLINGED their bike/scooter with recycled materials and rode to school in style. Thanks also to everyone involved in preparing the yummy healthy breakfast that awaited children on their arrival to school after 8:15am on the day. Great to see so many parents attend the Butterfly program parent workshop last week. Special thanks to the Girls and Boys Brigade for organising this worthwhile event for our parent community. Your support and cooperation on these important child safety matters is greatly appreciated! At the end of this week the Band/Music room will commence renovations to be converted into 2 NEW refurbished flexible teaching spaces. This should take approx. 6 weeks. As a result, the front of the school, on the old BOYS entrance side of the school (Parkham St) will be fenced off and become the construction site/office for the workmen. Once completed, early Term 2, 3F & 3K will relocate their classes into the NEW teaching spaces created. Then refurbishment works will commence on 3F & 3K s old classroom spaces. Dear Parents/Caregivers, On Wednesday 22nd March (Week 9) Bourke Street Public School will be celebrating Harmony Day. The message of Harmony Day is everyone belongs, and aims to recognise and celebrate cultural diversity. Along with integrated classroom activities we have a range of special events planned which we would like to encourage parents and the community to join in: COME TO SCHOOL DRESSED UP! On Harmony Day all students are encouraged to come to school dressed in traditional cultural dress from around the world, or wear orange (the colour of Harmony Day). SPECIAL HARMONY DAY ASSEMBLY At 12:30pm we will host a Harmony Day Festival Assembly featuring a celebration of cultural backgrounds, a parade of cultural dress, speakers and presentations, choir performances and a whole school special performance. WHOLE SCHOOL PICNIC This assembly will be followed at approximately 1pm by a whole school playground picnic. Students are encouraged to pack their own multicultural lunch which will be eaten outside while the school band performs and a range of playground activities from around the world to participate in. Parents and friends are warmly encouraged to come along and share in the celebrations from 12:30pm at the special assembly and then join in the special picnic. For further information or questions please see your classroom teacher. We re looking forward to sharing in the celebrations!
