Awards Program of Ashland County Established in December 1970 -Revised Fall 1989, 1993, 2006 & 2013 This document provides details regarding the awards available to all 4-H members in Ashland County. 1 Records Related Awards Records related awards are given to members who complete their 4-H records. 1.1 Regulations 1) Outstanding project work 2) Give one prepared demonstration or talk in any project at a project meeting, club meeting, or public event. 3) Exhibit in community, club, or fair if opportunity is available. 4) Turn in completed records showing progress made. 1.2 Awards An award agreed upon by the PLO (i.e. T-shirt, etc.) will be awarded unless a plaque / year disc / project disc is requested by a Parent or Club Leader. Plaque - All registered 4-H members must be nominated for name plaques by club leader. This is a one-time award; members may receive only one plaque. (Completed records not mandatory for name plaque.) Guidelines: 1) Active in club 2) Active in 1 or 2 projects Year Disc - To be awarded for the current 4-H year. Guidelines: 1) Registered 4-H member 2) Completed records Project Disc - To be awarded in each individual project. Guidelines: 1) Outstanding project work 2) Give one prepared demonstration or talk in any project at a project meeting, club meeting, or public event. 3) Exhibit in community, club, or fair if opportunity is available. 4) Turn in completed records showing progress made.

2 Project Related Awards Project related awards are given to members excelling in specific 4-H areas. These areas are defined by the state (NOTE: See your 4-H Project Guide for details on what projects are related to each area.). 2.1 Regulations 1) Award is based on outstanding work in two or more projects related to the area being nominated for. 2) Give one prepared demonstration or talk in any project at a project meeting, club meeting, or public event. 3) Exhibit in community, club, or fair if opportunity is available. 4) A total of four award certificates per county can be given in each award area listed below. 5) The following Certificates will be given to members based on the criteria stated: able Mention: Members who are 13 years of age. Excellence: Members who were 14 years old as of January 1. Continued Excellence: Members who have received a certificate in past years and continue to do outstanding work. 6) Nominate only members whose participation merits award. 7) Each club should send award nomination form with leader to county Achievement and Awards meeting. 2.2 Award Areas Awards will be given to each of the areas listed below: Service Learning & Citizenship Award Animal Sciences Award Communication Arts Award Performing Arts Award Visual Arts Award Family, Home & Health Award Consumer Education Award Foods and Nutrition Award Clothing and Textiles Award Mechanical Sciences Award Natural Resources & Environmental Education Award Shooting Sports Award Plant & Soil Sciences Award STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Award - 2 -

3 Special Awards Special awards are given to members, leaders, or community members who deserve recognition for their commitment to 4-H. The special awards will be decided by the Primary Club/Group Contact or their designated representative during the annual Achievement and Awards meeting. 3.1 Regulations 1. Club leaders and parents shall meet prior to the Achievement and Awards meeting to determine club members general achievement and make nominations for specials awards. 2. Represented clubs will have one vote. 3. Each representative will represent only one club. 4. Each child can only be nominated for an award by their primary club. 5. The Club representative must be prepared to talk about the nominees involvement with 4-H. Consideration will be given to: Active participation in 4-H Club & County activities or as a 4-H Volunteer. For awards designated as Outstanding, the members will be selected based on being: o Inclusive o Positive o Responsible o Considerate o Helpful o Mentoring (for older members) o Role Modeling (for older members) 6. When a child is being considered for an award and the parent is present, a paper vote will take place. 7. The same award is not given to a child two consecutive years. Awards excluded from this regulation are: 1) Achievement Award for Kindergarten 2 nd Grade 2) Youth Leadership. 3) Club Awards 4) All State Awards 3.2 Awards 3.2.1 Awards for Grades Kindergarten 2nd Achievement Award for Kindergarten 2nd Grade certificate and ribbon/medal. Provides special recognition to all members in Kindergarten 2 nd grade. Outstanding Kindergarten 2nd Grade Award - 3 -

Provides special recognition to 4-H members in Kindergarten 2 nd grade for outstanding 4-H member achievements as an individual, club member, and at the county level. One boy and one girl chosen. 3.2.2 Awards for Grades 3rd 5th Outstanding 3rd 5th Grade 4-H Award Provides special recognition to 4-H members in 3 rd 5 th grade for outstanding 4-H member achievements as an individual, club member, and at the county level. One boy and one girl chosen. 3.2.3 Awards for Grades 6th 8th Outstanding 6th 8th Grade 4-H Award Provides special recognition to 4-H members in 6 th 8 th grade for outstanding 4-H member achievements as an individual, club member, and at the county level. One boy and one girl chosen. 3.2.4 Awards for Grades 9th 13th Outstanding 9th 13th Grade 4-H Award Provides special recognition to 4-H members in 9 th 13 th grade for outstanding 4-H member achievements as an individual, club member, and at the county level. One boy and one girl chosen. Youth Leadership Award certificate for one of the following categories: able Mention Excellence Overall outstanding leadership work in projects and activities within the club, community, county, and district or state. - 4 -

Continued Excellence Graduation Award certificate and $50.00. To those members who actively remain in 4-H through the 12 th grade with at least 4 years of service. Completion Award A certificate for anyone with less than ten years in 4-H and a certificate with a gold pin for anyone with ten years or more in 4-H. To those members remaining in 4-H through age 19. 3.2.5 Additional Awards 1st Year Record Book Submission Award Awarded to any aged member completing a thorough record book for the first time. 4-H International Award For promoting inter-cultural understanding and contributions to international 4-H high school exchange program. Can be awarded to a student who has gone abroad. 3.2.6 Club Awards Club Member Award Each club will have the opportunity to determine specific award(s) pertaining to their club to be awarded to active club member(s). The Parent and Leaders Organization will fund $20 per club. These award(s) will come directly from the primary club leader and will not be voted on. - 5 -

3.2.7 State Awards State Photo Award Three photographs, selected from county fair entries, to travel with the State 4-H Photo Display and entered into the national contest. State Art Award Two art exhibits, selected from county fair entries, to participate in the Wisconsin 4-H and Youth Conference Art Exhibit. State Dairy Award certificate and medal. Medal provided by the state. Given to an outstanding Dairy project member. Wisconsin Key Award Highest 4-H award that recognize 4-H youth with consistent growth in leadership skills. See 4-H office for a complete list of criteria. 3.2.8 Leader Volunteer Awards Alumni Award Former 4-H member whose accomplishments show exemplary citizenship, leadership, career accomplishments and continued commitment to 4-H and youth development. Volunteer of the Year Award certificate and $25 gift certificate (i.e. Chamber Dollars). Voted by peers for outstanding volunteer service to 4-H in Ashland County. - 6 -

4-H International Award For promoting inter-cultural understanding and contributions to international 4-H high school exchange program. Can be awarded to a family who has hosted. 3.2.9 Community Member Awards Friend of 4-H Award One recipient will receive a plaque and certificates will be given to other recipients. Presented to an individual, group or business showing continued service and/or support to the County 4-H Program. - 7 -

Ashland County Evaluation Form Yearly Awards The following awards are given based on completion of Member Evaluation (ME) forms and participation at annual ME interviews. (It is recommended that ME interview participants bring a completed record book in support of their 4-H work.) 1) Washington Focus - Washington D.C. Held at the National 4-H Center. Program focus on leadership development and citizenship. Two or three delegates. 2) Wisconsin 4-H and Youth Conference - Madison Held on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus each June. Two or three delegates. 3) County Nominees for National Awards & Trips Delegates are selected for further consideration by individual county and forwarded to the district: a. National 4-H Club Congress - Chicago Held in the week following Thanksgiving, 35-40 delegates from Wisconsin. b. National 4-H Conference - Washington, D.C. Held in April each year, four Wisconsin delegates. 5) Other trips that come up during the year, such as Winter Camp Scholarships. For trips other than those determined by ME forms, all eligible 4-H members will be notified. 4- H members must fill out a request form for scholarships and submit it to the Parent & Leader's Organization. Participation Awards CULTURAL ARTS FESTIVAL Foods Revue Opportunity to exhibit at the County level. Blue ribbon winners are required to exhibit at the county fair to receive premiums. Clothing Revue Opportunity to exhibit at the County level. Two delegates are chosen to go to Wisconsin State Fair at Clothing Revue. Blue ribbon winners are requested to exhibit at the county fair to receive premiums. All participants are invited to model in the style show. Demonstration Contest/Speaking Contest County activity. Participation ribbons are awarded to all. Demonstration Contest - State Fair representatives are selected. Blue ribbon participants must demonstrate at the county fair to receive premiums. Drama Festival County activity, participation ribbons to all, recognition to "Best of" categories. Music Festival County activity, participation ribbons to all, recognition to "Best of" categories. Cultural Arts Exhibit County exhibit of cultural arts with "Best of" music and drama (and/or other performance arts as needed). Selected honor certificates. - 9 -

Club Awards One plaque may be given each year to the club that does the most outstanding work in one of the following areas. Certificates may be given each year to any club that does outstanding work in one of the following areas: Safety Health Conservation Citizenship The club must submit a report on record book check day or sent it to the Extension Office prior to record book check day. An Achievement Award will be given to each club that has 100% achievement, determined by the following: Every member shall hand in a record book Every member shall complete at least one project Enrollment changes shall be in by December 31 December 31 is the deadline for adding or dropping projects Members who move out of the county shall not count against the club for 100% achievement.
