Over 20 different A Levels, ranging from Mathematics and Physics to English and DT Food Technology, are offered in addition to Level Three BTECs in Sport, Health & Social Care, Art & Design and Travel & Tourism. At KWD Sixth you won t be just a number, you ll feel well supported within a Sixth Form organisation that encompasses both a local and family environment.

Welcome... Ounsdale has a thriving Sixth Form and we are very proud of our established reputation for high quality education and personal achievement. We are committed to providing a forward looking and caring educational experience which enables all students to fulfil their potential. We recognise and value achievement within all aspects of Sixth Form life, be it in an academic, sporting, creative, personal or social context, and are keen to celebrate our students many successes. We offer a wide variety of Advanced Level courses and our talented teachers and small group sizes ensure that each student has the support and challenge needed to be successful. All students belong to a tutor group and receive regular academic mentoring from their personal tutor as well as support with careers and university applications. Sixth Form study is challenging, exciting, rewarding and fun The Sixth Form is a well-established part of Ounsdale High School but it exists within its own separate area of the school grounds. We believe that this allows students the freedom and independence to develop their own sense of identity and confidence as well as providing opportunities for leadership and personal development. We have high expectations of our students. Studying at Ounsdale Sixth Form is demanding and Advanced Level or post 16 work can be challenging as well as exciting, rewarding and fun. Students are expected to work independently, manage their own time and balance the many demands placed upon them. If you find such a prospect attractive, it is likely that you will enjoy and gain enormously from becoming a student within Ounsdale Sixth Form. We welcome applications from students within Year 11 from both Ounsdale High School and from other schools within Wolverhampton, Dudley or further afield. We have a proven record of success and hope that our prospectus and website will encourage you to take the next step in applying for a place and ultimately becoming a student with us. On behalf of the staff, I wish you the very best of luck in your forthcoming GCSE examinations and look forward to meeting you at the Sixth Form Open Evening, or at interview, in the weeks and months to come. Jayne Jones Director of Sixth Form The Sixth Form Centre is a modern building where students have access to an exclusive ICT suite providing the ideal environment for private study along with a large, well equipped and comfortable common room with catering facilities and vending machines. Whilst the centre provides an excellent study base, our students also have access to the school s recently refurbished facilities which include a Design Technology workshop, a Learning Resource Centre and three new science laboratories. We also have extensive sporting facilities including a swimming pool and brand new cricket pitch, as well as the other existing specialist resources to support student learning. Results 2013 In 2013, Ounsdale Sixth Form achieved excellent results. Our A Level pass rate was 100% with 43% being at grades A*, A or B.

kinver wombourne dudley Sixth Form Courses Ounsdale Sixth Form has a long-standing tradition of offering students a wide range of academic courses. In recent years we have complemented our existing provision with a number of vocational options. At Level 3 we currently offer students a choice from 22 A Level courses, 3 BTEC courses and the Cambridge Technical Diploma in IT. This allows students the opportunity to personalise their curriculum to suit their individual needs, abilities and aspirations. At Level 2 we offer GCSE resit courses in English and Mathematics. The students speak highly of the range of subjects on offer, and the courses that can be taken, some at other local schools and colleges. Ofsted 2011 Enrichment We believe that Sixth Form students should be provided with many opportunities to develop their skills, knowledge and ideas beyond the classroom. Our Enrichment Programme has been carefully planned to give students the chance to pursue other interests and qualifications in conjunction with their main courses. Previous examples of courses/ opportunities which have been included in our programme are: Level 3 Extended Project Arts Award Certificate in Personal Finance Conversational French/Spanish Personal Fitness GCSE Classical Civilisation Duke of Edinburgh Sixth Form Magazine Running alongside our formal Enrichment Programme we also offer students a range of after-school clubs and visits both as part of their Sixth Form Courses and as stand alone experiences. In recent years students have visited Auschwitz in Poland, New York, university masterclasses in Birmingham, The Good Food Show at the NEC, London art galleries, Chester Scavenger Hunt, Birmingham University Crime Convention, Alton Towers, theatre trips to Birmingham, field trips to Birmingham, Ludlow and Exmoor, and many more. Careers and University Guidance The vast majority of our students go on to university. In order to prepare students for the application process, and to give them the very best chance of success, we provide a comprehensive and structured programme of support and guidance we call Futures. This course covers a wide range of topics including advanced study skills, revision techniques, driver safety, preparation for job applications and the university application process. As part of this programme, students are given the opportunity to visit various universities. Last year we took students to Oxford, Birmingham University, Chester and Aston Universities to enable them to gain an insight into university life. For those students who decide to take a gap year or seek employment, we offer advice on writing CVs, completion of application forms and preparation for interview.

kinver wombourne dudley Academic Guidance Sixth Form is a bridge between school and university where we aim to develop students independence. A Levels are challenging and we seek to support and guide our students as they make the transition from GCSE to A Level study. During their time with us we acknowledge that students may at some point face a difficulty, be it due to relationship, health, family, academic or other issues. Our team of staff are experienced in identifying those students in need of extra care and guidance and will ensure that everything possible is done to provide them with the necessary support to enable them to fulfil their potential. We are fortunate to be able to offer students a personal tutor with whom they will meet with on a daily basis. We also have access to a Learning Mentor, two student counsellors and the Staffordshire Careers Guidance Service. The Student Union The Student Union provides a forum for the views of all students and student committees take reponsibility for organising social events throughout the year such as the Leavers Ball. The Head Girl and Head Boy provide leadership for the student body and along with a team of prefects, are responsible for whole school initiatives. Our Student Enhancement Program (STEP) also provides students with an oppurtunity to support others in the school and wider community.

Sport Ounsdale has a proud sporting tradition and our students excel across a wide range of sports. Sports coaching is offered to a high level and students can become coaches themselves through the Sports Leadership Programme. Facilities The Sixth Form Centre is a modern, recently refurbished building and is in a distinct and separate area of the school. The building houses: a large common room, kitchen, two classrooms, an ICT suite and a private study room. We also have eight dedicated ICT rooms throughout the school in addition to networked computers within most departments. We have a media room, a dance studio, a drama studio, a recording studio and new video editing suite of high specification. Our theatre has recently been upgraded with the latest lighting and sound technology and tiered seating. We have newly refurbished food and technology rooms along with a Design Technology workshop and three new science laboratories. Our impressive sporting facilities include a brand new cricket pitch, a large refurbished sports hall, gym, tennis courts, fitness suite and a swimming pool. The best teaching builds on students belief in themselves and they develop sufficient confidence quickly to work at high levels, analysing, forming opinions and justifying them. Ofsted 2011

Ofsted 2011 How to Apply Students wishing to apply for a place within the Sixth Form are required to complete an application form. Every applicant is interviewed during the Spring Term and it is at this point that initial advice and guidance regarding suitability of courses is given.
