Job Description The East Manchester Academy opened in September 2010 for 180 Year 7 pupils. The Academy now caters for 900 pupils. The East Manchester Academy was a new build and had no predecessor school. We have state-of-the -art resources, superb Academy and external sporting facilities and aim to recruit only outstanding teachers. In 2015 the academy joined the Education & Leadership Trust The person appointed will need to be committed to transforming the educational experience of all pupils. The post offers considerable opportunities for professional development with excellent support structures. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and committed teacher of Computer Science who is able to inspire pupils across the age and ability range, and who has had success with pupils at GCSE level. Applications are invited from candidates who will motivate and engage young people, thus playing a pivotal role in our ongoing and future success. The candidate we are looking for will; have a knowledge of and passion for Computing and I.C.T have excellent ICT skills and have experience with at least one text based programming language be enthusiastic, innovative and well-organised with the ability to motivate and inspire pupils and team members to achieve the highest standards at both KS3 and KS4 contribute towards the delivery of extra-curricular activities be highly motivated and creative develop and deliver enrichment activities across the age and ability range be highly motivated and aspirational care about pupils well being and progress have a keen sense of humour and positive outlook. Key roles to teach Computing and I.C.T. within the Scientific Faculty ensure effective teaching and learning in the Scientific Faculty, so that lessons are challenging, engaging and exciting to evaluate the quality of teaching and learning, ensuring high standards of pupils achievement, to ensure maximum progress of individual pupils. Specific responsibilities The main responsibilities of the post are to: teach Computing and I.C.T. across the age and ability range plan and deliver lessons and other learning activities in accordance with the Academy s policies ensure effective development of pupils information, communication and technology skills through Computing and I.C.T. teaching jointly evaluate the teaching of Computing and I.C.T. within the Academy ensure classes are effectively managed so that pupils can learn in a supportive, challenging and calm working environment ensure that information about pupils achievements in previous classes and school(s) is used effectively to secure appropriate progress in Computing and I.C.T. ensure all data used effectively to ensure maximum pupil progress

use data to identify pupils who are underachieving in Computing and I.C.T. and where necessary create and implement effective plans of action to support those pupils be responsible in ensuring pupil progress, including those with additional needs work with the SENCO and other staff with special educational needs expertise, to ensure that individual education plans are used by teaching staff to set subject-specific targets and match work well to pupils needs attend team and staff meetings as appropriate, contributing actively and positively whenever possible take responsibility for personal development and progression making full use of the school s professional development opportunities and training participate in and support the Performance Management Policy undertake such other duties as reasonably required by the Principal. Every member of the teaching staff has a responsibility to: plan their teaching to achieve the maximum progression in pupils learning; mark work informatively and regularly and with respect to the Academy s Assessment and Marking Policy provide clear structures for lessons, and for sequences of lessons which maintain pace, motivation and challenge for pupils to make effective provision for all pupils with additional needs across the ability range including those with statements of special educational needs, EAL and Gifted and Talented make effective use of assessment information on pupils attainment and progress in their teaching and in planning future lessons and sequences of lessons plan opportunities to contribute to pupils personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development ensure coverage of the relevant examination syllabuses and National Curriculum programmes of study as required ensure effective teaching of whole classes so that learning outcomes are met establish and maintain a purposeful working atmosphere set high expectations for pupils behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships establish a safe environment which supports learning and in which pupils feel secure and confident use teaching methods which sustain the momentum of pupils work and keep all pupils engaged evaluate their own teaching critically and use this to improve their effectiveness.
