Knight s Athletic Newsleter R I V E R R I D G E A T H L E T I C S. O R G February 12, 2018 I love Spirit Walks! Most of us will remain modest and humble when it comes to the idea of being recognized in front of a large group, but let s face it; it s pretty neat. Our athletes love being led through the halls by our amazing drumline, and as soon as teams qualify for the State Playoffs they are asking me when their spirit walk is going to happen! All of us respond better and work a little harder when we know that our efforts and achievements are recognized and valued. I know our students are appreciative of your support and interest in all of their endeavors. Our time is valuable, and when you choose to spend it at a play, performance or contest, you are telling our students that it is time well spent. Thank you so much for your continued support of our extracurriculars, and please know that you are having an impact on our kids. We have another spirit walk for girls basketball this week. Info is coming! Edge of the Sword: WINTER SPORTS CLASSROOM CREATIVITY HONORS Our current senior athletes who have committed to colleges were honored this past week at the CCSD signing day.
Tip-Off Our Lady Knights locked in a State Tournament bid this week, and will play Douglas County High School. The date and time are TBD at the time of print, but we will get that information to you as soon as we have it. The girls have played well all year, and are ready for a playoff run. Congrats to Faith Arthur and K. J. Jenkins on being named to the All-Region Team Girls and Boys teams respectively. I really need to thank our basketball booster parents along with the coaching staffs for hosting a seamless tournament. Everything was well organized and ran perfectly.
Knight s Athletic Newsleter Talented Kids... Fifty students and five chaperones recently attended a 5-day field trip to Walt Disney World. The art and journalism students participated in the Disney Youth Education Series class on Techniques of Teamwork at Epcot and also completed photography assignments around Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom. The field trip took place during Epcot s Festival of the Arts, where students could participate in a myriad of art activities and could even interact with famous works of art. The students received numerous compliments from Disney cast members because of their excellent behavior and participation in the events. Thank to Mrs. Norris for the picture and information.

Knight s Athletic Newsleter We are so proud of Jake and Alex. Jake started the week as an alternate, and was given the opportunity to compete via an injury. He took full advantage of this opportunity and placed in the State Tournament as a freshman! This is a tremendous accomplishment, and he has set the bar high for his next three years. Alex finished a wonderful career with a heart-breaking loss, but leaves River Ridge as a 3 time State Qualifier and the all-time leader in pins. Both gentlemen have been wonderful representatives of our school.
More Athletic Honors This past Monday, CCSD celebrated Women s Day in Sports. This is the annual celebration of the passing of Title IX, which mandated equal access to interscholastic athletics for females in high schools and colleges. Coach Winfield and Coach Kim Manus organized our female athletes, and helped prepare a great presentation on women s athletics at River Ridge.
Knight s Athletic Newsleter Soccer Kicks Off... Soccer season is officially under way. Our girls are off to a great start with a ties in their scrimmage against perennial powerhouse Chattahoochee, and a big win against North Springs. Our girls won with a total team effort, and Coach Rice is getting contributions from athletes in every grade. Maddy Curry and Caylee Gerold have been the offensive leaders so far. Our boys played well against a very tought North Springs team, but fell a little short. Connor Cunningham score both of our goals, and the boys look to rebound against Alpharetta this week. Page 7
