We hope they ll find beauty in the Rosary, grow to love the Blessed Mother, sing as they walk in a May procession, feel connected to generations of saints, fast and abstain and know why it matters, and realize the universal nature of our Church. Maybe their hearts will leap at the smell of incense, and they ll instinctively genuflect when they enter a church. I can t wait to see them discover the richness of our faith tradition. R. Buettner, The Catholic Review Nota Bene / Note Well: Want a sneak peek of the New PSAT? There is a free practice test this weekend! May 2015 Oh! The Places You ll Go! A key part of the college discernment process is finding a good fit for you. One of the best ways to get more information is to visit a college. And, more often than not, the most convenient time to visit a college is during the summer months! See the Real Thing: You can look at photos on their website, or through Instagram, but you will never really know a college campus unless you get a first hand view. Other avenues (college brochures, websites, etc.) only show you so much, and honestly, they are mostly the same highlights. But you need more than that before deciding where you want to spend your four years after high school. You want to see the dorms, visit the classrooms, run around the gym, and pray in the chapel to see if it can feel like home. Fun Facts: Ask the Real Questions: A visit to campus will give you the opportunity to have a one-on-one with an admissions officer, a chat over coffee with a student, and a chance to attend a class and meet a professor. You can get answers to whatever questions are most important to you: How many students would I have in each of my classes? What s the dorm life like? Is there Greek Life on campus? How s the food? Can I double major? Whatever questions will help you determine what you need out of college, this is the prime opportunity to ask! Parents are also encouraged to attend college visits. They might remember a question or two you forgot, and there are probably a few lecture sessions they will enjoy. While visiting, make sure you pick up any official college material that could possibly be useful, you never know what will help you when you are ready to decide. Also pay attention to activity boards and college newspapers; these will give you an idea of what current students are doing around campus. Make the Real Decision: No one but you is going to know what school is the best fit. What campus made you feel most at home? What class did you enjoy the most? Will you be challenged at this university? Do you see yourself fitting in there easily with friends? Spending time on a college campus will allow you to have these opinions and ultimately make that important decision on your own. There are 4,726 degree-granting institutions in the US: 3,026 of those being 4-year institutions. As of 2012, the US had 21 million students in higher education, roughly 5.7% of the population, and about 13 millions of these students were enrolled full-time! Interested in attending The Atonement Academy Senior Day on May 23, 2015? Come let Mrs. Trevino know ASAP! Want a specific College Representative to visit The Atonement Academy? Let me know! To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe. -Anatole France

May Crowning Tradition Continues to Be Popular Among Students Bringing roses from the family garden or wildflowers collected along a roadside or carnations purchased in front of the school building, the students of The Atonement Academy know how to begin the month of May! Before daily Mass celebrating the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, students brought flowers to Our Lady s altar on Friday, May 1st. Annual Gala Celebrates 20 Years and Honors Father Stravinskas Atonement moms planned and carried out the annual event, this year held at Pedrotti Ranch, featuring auctions, dinner, and dancing. Our honoree was Father Peter Stravinskas, who more than 20 years ago encouraged Father Phillips to build a school! After being presented with The Crusader Award, he discussed what it means to be Crusaders, living with a commitment to promulgate our Catholic faith.
