Cucchi III - Principal Heather Blum - Associate Principal Cheryl Cunningham-Associate Principal Mark McLoughlin - Associate Principal Main Office (586) 797-1600 Attendance (586) 797-1699 Jan 2017 From The Principal... Dear Parents and Friends of Henry Ford II: Happy New Year! My hope is that you had a restful holiday season and that 2017 will be a great year for your family. We have just two and a half weeks until exams to end the first semester. Remember that each quarter grade counts 40% and the final exam counts 20% of a student s semester grade. A student s semester grade is the grade that is placed on a student s official high school transcript and is how we calculate the official GPA for a student. We have three half days for final exams beginning on January 18th. Second semester officially starts on January 23rd. There is no school on Monday, January 16th, to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. School starts at 7:20 a.m. and is dismissed at 10:22 a.m. on exam days. The schedule is as follows: Wednesday, January 18th Hours 1 & 2 Thursday, January 19th Hours 3 & 4 Friday, January 20th Hours 5 & 6 Attention juniors: Our SAT Prep Workshop dates will soon be determined. Further information will be sent. Last year we had a little over half of our students attend this seven day workshop. Students who attended all seven hours did earn 2 to 4 points higher on the SAT than they did on the Princeton Review. This year our goal is that 400 students attend all six days of this after school workshop. Attention parents of a junior: It is my recommendation that every junior attends our SAT Prep Workshop hosted by two outstanding educators; Mr. Mark Julien and Mr. Nick Chambers. Similar workshops like the one Mr. Julien and Mr. Chambers host cost in excess of $500.00. We offer this to our students free of charge. If you talk to our current seniors who had a high score on the SAT test they will say the same two things: The SAT workshop really helped them with the pace and confidence they needed to do well on the test and that they had no idea that getting a good score on the SAT would open so many doors for them. Seniors with a high SAT score get into the college of their dreams, and are awarded the scholarships they need The mission of Henry Ford II High School is to involve family, school, and community to educate our students through a supportive environment and a stimulating curriculum.
From the principal (continued) to make going to their dream college a reality. We are hoping for the same results this year with our students now taking the SAT. graduate than students who never take an AP class This year 32% of our students are taking at least one AP or honors class. The Academic Blitz will be held on February 2, 2017. This evening event for students and parents in the sixth through eleventh grade is designed to help both students and parents understand the first steps in the college admissions process. This event will take place here at Henry Ford II High School. Then on Thursday, March 16, 2017 the Career Expo is at Eisenhower High School. In order to earn a college degree students have to find a career that matches their interest and aptitude. Students who attend the Career Expo are amazed at the number of careers there are to choose from and surprised by the level of education necessary to be successful in these careers. Again, let me wish you a Happy New Year! GO FALCONS! Kenneth L. Cucchi III Principal On Wednesday, April 19, 2017 Ford will host the College Fair. Every student in our school should plan to attend this event. Up to 70 colleges will be represented at this fair. The College Fair is your chance as both parents and students to see the program each university offers and the costs of attending the university. After attending the College Fair, make sure the classes you are taking at Ford allow you to have a high enough SAT score so you gain admission to the college that specializes in your career choice. Finally, I encourage all 10th and 11th graders to make a couple of campus visits during the spring, summer, or early fall so students know where they would like to attend college. The one thing I hear over and over from seniors is if you wait to go on a campus visit until your senior year it is too late. Students need to be ready in September of their senior year to apply to the university of their choice. If seniors wait too long to apply or visit a school, they run the risk of not getting into that particular school. We want to keep all of those doors open for our students! As students make their schedule choices in February make sure your student is considering taking the college rigor of an AP class. It is a goal at Ford that every student takes at least one AP class before they graduate. Students who take an AP class and sit for the AP exam are five times more likely to be a college SAT WORKSHOP MISD is hosting four additional SAT Student Prep Workshops this winter starting after the New Year.
