South Winneshiek School Board Report October 9, 2017 Kris Einck, Superintendent, High School Principal, & Athletic Director District Vision The vision of the South Winneshiek School District, with shared responsibility of home and community, is to provide the best environment to develop skills needed to be responsible lifelong learners within the school and community. District Mission The mission of the South Winneshiek Community School District program is to assist and ensure that every student achieves his/her level of educational excellence in the areas of academic, career, and social/emotional development through a collaborative partnership with students, family, educators, and community. Certified Enrollment The Department of Education has encouraged school districts to wait until the November board meeting to share any counts from Certified Enrollment with their school board or the public. Therefore at the November board meeting I will include in my report information concerning our student count. SIAC Meetings This year s first School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC) meeting will be held on Wedneday, Ocotober 25, at 4:30 pm in the board room. We will hold three meetings per year with the next two occuring on January 24, 2018 and April 25, 2018. I will report the minutes to the board after each meeting. School Board Work Session I feel it would be advantageous for the new board to hold a work session to discuss goals, communication protocol, etc. We will need to create an agenda of items to discuss. Please let me know your thoughts.
Homecoming 2017 A very successful 2017 Homecoming celebration wrapped up a few weeks ago. I would like to personally thank everyone that helped make it a huge success this year including Glenna Munuswamy, Student Council Advisor and all the Student Council members, Sara Schmitt, Cheer Coach and the all the Cheer Leaders, and Jean Martin and the entire transportation crew. The entire week s activities went very smoothly and our first year of having every student in our district attend the pep rally, coronation, and parade was electrifying! It was a very warm day however I believe this will begin a tradition that will continue to unite our district! Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, November 7th and Thursday, November 9th. Conferences run from 4:00 8:00 pm. I strongly encourage all students and parents to take advantage of this opportunity to speak with their teachers. This is a great time to open the communication lines and take a hands-on approach with your education. This is also an excellent opportunity to learn about all of the wonderful projects, events, organizations, and activities that take place at school. Studies have shown that students whose parents play an active role in their school lives perform and prosper at a much higher level.
