PRINCIPAL S REPORT Edition 35-12 th November 2014 The end of the year is fast approaching and plans for 2015 are well underway. It is a busy time of the year but also a time when we can reflect on our achievements and the events of 2014. I know our Year Six students will be taking some time to think about their primary school years as they prepare for their graduation on Tuesday 16 th December. Next year will see an increase to twenty seven classes at Greythorn. With a high number of Prep enrolments we will be running five classes at this level. This will mean some remodelling of the computer lab to facilitate an additional classroom. The computers that are currently in the lab will be dispersed to classrooms creating a higher ratio and access for students to digital learning tools. Many of our 2015 Preps are in the school today and tomorrow for their Transition sessions. They will join us again for their Orientation Day on Tuesday 9 th December. Along with finalising end of year reports, teachers will spend a great deal of time in consultation over the next few weeks to determine the best possible learning environment for your child for 2015. As you would be aware many factors need to be taken into account when determining our structure and placement of students. Thank you to the parents who have followed the guidelines of our Formation of Classes policy, addressing relevant concerns about the placement of their child. (Please note that requests for specific teachers do not form part of the guidelines.) Correspondence in regard to class placement for 2015 must be received by Thursday 20 th November. Teaching positions and arrangements for 2015 will be published in the Newsletter on 10 th December. Classes for 2015 will be announced on Thursday 18 th December, when students will have the opportunity to visit their room and meet their teacher for 2015. Your ongoing support in this process is most important and appreciated. Congratulations to Our Boys Softball team who competed in the Regional Finals at Jells Park last Monday. It was an extremely tight competition with all teams in our pool finishing on the same number of points. This meant that percentage became the determining factor to choose the finalist. Unfortunately we missed out by a very narrow margin on gaining a place in the final. The team performed very well on the day, rounding off what has been a successful season of Softball. Many thanks to Kim Bride for her efforts in managing and training the team. Alex C (6J) and William C (4K) have been selected in the North Eastern Red Devils Under 12 boys hockey team to play in the Zone Challenge at the State Hockey Centre. The Zone Challenge is a round robin format being played over two weekends, November 15/16 and November 22/23. Good luck to Alex and William. A friend of mine is having treatment for advanced breast cancer and I thought I would try and raise some money for the BCSN by doing a Fun Run on December 7 th the Sussan Classic. I have entered for the half marathon and my daughter Emmy (1W) is doing the mini run for 4-7 year olds (500m) and there is 5km and 10km to choose from as well. We would love some friendly GPS community support! I have registered a team called Annie s Army so if you are interested, please go to sussanwomensfunrun.com.au and follow the links to the teams to register. The password to access the group registration is marli. Remember, it is a fun run so this is not about being fast but having fun, getting fit and raising money for a great cause.
