Principal s Message After School Arrangements We acknowledge that pick up time is a very busy time and we thank the parents and carers who use the drop off and pick up zone (where the No Parking signs are) outside of our school as it is intended. Please remember that this is not an area to park and leave your car. We hope that with more people using the No Parking zone as it is intended, the flow of traffic will improve. Staff have been again revising procedures for after school supervision. The number of students who are being picked up well after 3pm has increased significantly and on average we have been counting approximately 70 students who are still here at school after 3:15pm. This is in addition to the 20-30 students who get buses or go to OOSH. Whilst we understand that traffic outside of school is often terrible and that there may sometimes be extenuating circumstances, we ask that parents and carers please try to work with us in making arrangements for the care of students from 3pm when school finishes. If there is a time when you are running a little late, please give the office a call and inform us as a courtesy. We cannot have them sit on the grass during the cooler months as the grass is often wet. One teacher cannot safely supervise close to 100 students without having very controlled measures in place. Therefore, due to safety we have begun asking all students who are waiting to be picked up to sit on the concrete between the toilets and the hall until they can see a parent or carer or their car. Thank you for your support and for working with us to ensure the safety of our students. Winter has arrived! At this time it is important to remind all students that they should be wearing full school uniform and not substituting that with different coloured jackets, jumpers, scarves, tights etc. Thank you for your assistance with this. Please ensure all items are labelled clearly with names.

School Uniform Policy Review We had a large number of parents and carers respond to our school uniform survey as part of our policy review. The revised policy has been drafted and was tabled at the P&C meeting on Tuesday evening. The draft policy is also attached to this newsletter. If you have any further comments or feedback, please email (figtreep.school@det.nsw.edu.au) by next Friday 29 June. In summary, the key changes included in the draft are: School hats to be worn by all students Black shoes to be worn by all students (Mon-Thurs) Sports uniform to be worn on Friday by all students Girls will be able to wear grey dress pants in the winter instead of red Red track pants can be worn on Friday as part of the sports uniform Girls can wear (only) grey stockings under their tunic A zip fleece jumper will replace the hoodie Red Central Wollongong PSSA jumpers are only to be worn on Friday as part of the sports uniform and only by students who have represented Central Wollongong PSSA. The implementation of our revised policy will be a gradual one. Students can continue to wear the school hoodie, red pants. microfibre jacket etc until they grow out of them. The uniform shop will also continue to sell the superseded items until they are sold out. The uniform shop is looking into stocking new uniform items as soon as possible including a unisex grey pant, grey shorts for boys, grey stockings, new zip jacket and sports uniform in smaller sizes. We will be doing a special order of school hats at a reduced price and will also let you know when new uniform items will be available for purchase. Thank you for your support and patience. Athletics Carnival What a fantastic day we had last Thursday for the Athletics Carnival and Fun Day! There were some great individual performances and everyone enjoyed the activities that were planned. A huge thank you to Mr Connor for his excellent organisation of the carnival and to all the willing helpers who assisted. Some events will still need to finalised over the next couple of weeks. Good luck to our District Team who will compete at Beaton Park on 15 and 16 August. We know that you will represent our school well. Multicultural Public Speaking Competition Good luck to Hanna, Marcus, Sienna and Aurora who will be competing in the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition at Mt St Thomas next Monday. Reports Semester 1 reports will go home to parents Thursday 5 July (Week 10). Unfortunately it is not possible to send reports home for families who are going on holidays early but they can be posted home if parents prefer. Please let the office know if you would like this to happen. Kindergarten in 2019 Just another reminder that we are busy collecting information about Kindergarten enrolments for 2019. If you have a child who will be starting school next year and you haven t already let us know, please do so as soon as possible. If you know of local families who will be sending their oldest child to school for the first time next year, please let them know as well. We have had many enquiries for non-local placements in Kindergarten next year and we want to ensure that we allocate places for all of our local enrolments first. The best thing to do is to contact the school office by phone and we can help you from there.

Staffing Mrs Peros will be on leave from Friday 29 June until the end of Term 2. 2P will be taught by Miss Viselli during this time. Teachers are Learners Too! All K-2 teachers have continued their L3 training. All teachers have been involved in discussing student assessment results and collaboratively planning. On Thursday of last week, Miss Wendy and Miss Lambrina attended a Health Care Procedures update. Yesterday, Miss Harding and Mrs Read attended training in a new budgeting tool. Today, Miss Monteleone attended Positive Behaviour for Learning Coach Training. Today and tomorrow, Miss Neville and Mrs Calderaro are involved in two days of learning that focuses on the effective teaching of reading during the early years. Have a great fortnight!
