ROSELAND UNIVERSITY PREP A Program of the Roseland Charter School E S T A B L I S H E D 2 0 0 4 THE FUTURE

Roseland University Prep was founded in 2004 by popular demand of our parents, staff and governing boards. We opened our school with the purpose of increasing the high school graduation rate of under-served students in Sonoma County and in particular the Roseland neighborhood. We started small. Our campus opened with a freshman class of 80 students. We added a class each year until we graduated our first class of seniors in 2008. Our current enrollment is over 450 students with an annual waiting list. We BELIEVE in our students and the possibilities for their bright futures. We are most proud of our consistent 95-100 percent graduation rate which ranks among the highest in Sonoma County and significantly out-performs the average graduation rate in California. All our students leave Roseland University Prep with a post-secondary academic plan. Many students choose our local Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State University. Other students go on to colleges and universities as well as career technical programs throughout California and beyond. OUR FINAL GOAL is to see an educated Roseland University Prep alumni coming home and stepping into leadership roles to strengthen our community. Finally, Roseland University Prep could not have achieved such success without the generous and enthusiastic backing of our community. We are grateful to Sonoma County residents, organizations and business leaders who believe in our students and have supported Roseland University Prep from the beginning. Know that your encouragement has changed lives. Our students and their families understand the importance of your support, and they thank you.

FOUNDERS of Roseland University Prep GAIL ANDRADE AHLAS had been an elementary school principal in the Roseland School District for ten years when the district began expanding its mission to eventually provide a full preschool through high school program. The district goal was to enable our students to graduate from high school equipped with skills necessary to enter and succeed in college or other post-high school training programs. The first step was creation of the Roseland Accelerated Middle School for our children after elementary school. In 2004, we established Roseland University Prep for our middle school students as they reached high school age. In 2012, Ms. Andrade Ahlas helped establish Roseland Collegiate Prep, located on the former Ursuline High School campus, where students 7th grade through 12th are receiving a strong college prep experience. AMY JONES-KERR was a clear choice for Roseland University Prep s founding principal. An experienced teacher of multiple grades and assistant principal of Roseland Accelerated Middle School, she brought her vision, community-building skills and hard work to create a high school environment where students could work hard and succeed. Ms. Jones-Kerr was also the founding principal of Roseland Collegiate Prep, where she initiated the same strong school culture that has worked so successfully for our students. Among our early supporters, DR. RUBEN ARMIÑANA, President of Sonoma State University, stepped forward as an initial strong supporter of expanding and improving educational opportunities for our students. SUSAN MOORE, a leading Sonoma County education advocate, joined our team to be the founder of our 60-member Roseland Charter School Community Advisory Board. Gail Andrade Ahlas is now retired but continues to support Roseland School District with an emphasis on completion of the new Roseland University Prep campus. Ms. Jones-Kerr now serves as Roseland School District Superintendent. SUE REESE, one of our longest-serving teachers, is now the proud principal of Roseland University Prep. We are dedicated to giving every child the eduction they need to attend college.

Roseland University Prep (RUP) students have proven that they can go the distance. Our students achievements are reflected by the almost perfect graduation rates RUP has posted since it was established in 2004. RUP graduates are going to colleges and universities locally and throughout the state and nation in numbers unheard of only a decade ago. Our alumni will soon be our up-and-coming community leaders in Sonoma County and beyond. And these young people accomplished all this in a start-up high school housed in a spruced-up warehouse in a fading, graffiti-tagged industrial area of Santa Rosa. Think of what these Roseland-area students will do in a new campus with basic and modern educational and environmental features. That s what we plan to offer our community s families and children a school that honors and challenges their potential and promise. A place with adequate windows giving natural light, energy efficient heating and air conditioning, a library, science classrooms, art center and much more. The new Roseland University Prep High School will enable students to begin to see and then realize their dreams. RUP students have consistently succeeded given the opportunity. We hope you ll support RUP s future students.

We are almost there! PERFORMANCE So far, the district has acquired the land and received most of the money required to 96% build the school with a $7 million state grant, a $7 million state loan and a $1 million of the 2014 class graduated grant from the Ernest L. & Ruth W. Finley Foundation that together provide about 100% of graduates headed for College! 90% of the required funding. We are just 10% away from our goal! This is why we need you. Roseland University Prep, located in one of the most under-served areas of Sonoma County, is currently housed in an industrial warehouse without windows, recreation 28% of graduates attending Sonoma State University RECOGNITION In Spring 2012, a national study of high schools by U.S. News & World Report ranked RUP 40th best in the country and 7th best in California. facilities, cafeteria or library. Now is the time for Sonoma County residents to come together and help build the school that will ensure a brighter future for thousands of under-served students who will attend the school in the decades ahead.
