12 June 2018 Riverton Primary School Western Australia Riverton Review Principals: Paul Grundy and Vicki Sturgeon 255 Corinthian Road, RIVERTON WA 6148 Phone: 9457 2644 Website: riverton.ps.wa.edu.au Email: riverton.ps@education.wa.edu.au Riverton Primary School Ed Support Centre: 9457 8307 From the Principals In what was a shortened last week, our students spent their time on a number of difference activities, from assemblies through to dancing, Educode sessions and of course the Eagles Cup sporting event to finish the week. Tuesday 12 June Dance Lessons PP-Year 5 League Tag Carnival Wednesday 13 June Choir excursion Educode Years 4-6 Friday 15 June Senior Assembly Educode Years 4-6 Eagles Cup Book Fair Monday 18 June Dance Lessons PP-Year 5 Book Fair Tuesday 19 June Dance Lessons PP-Year 5 Book Fair I would like to further remind parents that even though we are now in winter, the expectation that students will be dressed in school uniform remains for our school. Students should be wearing their school shirts, windcheaters and jackets, rather than other clothing. School pants, shorts and other items on the list are to be worn to school. Moreover, items of school clothing should have the student s name clearly marked to avoid confusion when items are mixed up or lost. Please contact our P&C if you have any queries or concerns regarding the school uniform, and let the office or teacher know if there are any problems involved in getting school uniform items. Our choir is heading off to the University of Western Australia to perform in the Singfest at the Octagon Theatre. I am sure that the students will perform brilliantly and continue to demonstrate their talents for singing together. Thanks in advance to Mr Davey for all his preparatory work and to those parents who are able to come along and support the children. Our first Eagles Cup fixture was held last Friday against Caralee PS and the students all acquitted themselves well across the sports of football, soccer and netball against an enthusiastic opposition. I was lucky enough to be there and was really impressed with the commitment, teamwork and of course the on-field behaviour of our students. Whilst the netballers and soccer team did their best and unfortunately couldn t bring home a victory, the footballers played really well and managed to secure a strong win. Congratulations to all the students involved in the games, and thank you to Mr Brooks, Mr Smeed, Mrs West and Mrs London for their hard work leading up and including the event. We have a break this week before playing Parkwood later this term. Our Junior Assembly was held on Friday and a number of students were given Honour Awards at the gathering. Our student leaders again performed well, conducting and leading the assembly through the various parts. Thank you to those parents who were able to attend and congratulations to the award winners. Our kindergarten students were visited by some special guests on Wednesday and Friday who talked and showed lots of information about hospitals and helped familiarise students about the activities that happen in hospitals. The visitors from the Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospitals (AWCH) come to Riverton every year and were able to again provide some information in a fun and interesting way for the children, with lots of activities to help ease any fears children might have if they needed to go to a hospital. Thank you to Mrs Frossos for organising the visit. Our senior students have been training very hard at recess and lunch recently in preparation for the League Tag carnival at Burrendah today. I am sure that our teams will be great ambassadors for the school and I look forward to hearing about their performance. Go Rivo! Reading for understanding and enjoyment is central to the education of all our children and the capacity to read effectively is crucial in the development of our children and the acquisition of knowledge and skills. Having interesting and engaging books to read at home and at school is really important. Our annual Book Fair commences on Friday and runs on Monday and Tuesday next week. Operating out of our library, a number of books and related products will be on display and available for parents and students to purchase. Please come along before or after school and take a look at the range of books available to buy. Books make great presents and can be really special gifts! I look forward to seeing lots of parents and friends up there taking a look. Thank you to Mrs Murphy for her organisation.
