Last Thursday we held our annual Pursuit of Excellence Assembly. This assembly included an items from our wonderful Pre-Primary students who did a terrific job singing Good Things Come in Little Packages. We also awarded the Pursuit of Excellence medallions and certificates. Pursuit of Excellence is awarded to a student from each class in PP to Year 6 who demonstrated respect for others, personal responsibility, a good work ethic and endeavouring to produce their personal best at all times. Well done to the recipients of this award. Well done to all students who participated in the Yakamia s Got Talent night. This was a fantastic evening with a range of entertainment and it was amazing to see the wonderful talents our students have. Thank you to all families who came along and supported the students, the staff who helped on the night and a special thank you to Mr McLean and Mr Fisher who coordinated the whole event. You did a fabulous job. Next Wednesday 13 December is our Year 6 Graduation Ceremony. This will commence at 1:00pm in the Hall. Year 6 students are to wear their Graduation shirts and green shorts or skorts. After the ceremony, the Year 6 students will have afternoon tea with their families and special guests. Room 21 is to provide savoury plates while Room 22 is to provide the sweets. A note will go home on Monday with the Year 6 students to confirm details for parents. We welcome all Year 6 families to come along to this special presentation. Thank you to all the students who represented Yakamia PS at the City of Albany Christmas Pageant on 2 December. It was a great evening and I was very proud of how well students behaved and marched for Yakamia PS. We had approximately 50 students and staff in the pageant, a great turn out. The Foodbank Free Dress Day today raised a total of $343.30! Thank you to everyone who donated.
Page 2 School News We will be holding our Volunteers Thank You Morning Tea on Tuesday 12 December, 10.20am in the staffroom. Invitations have been sent out by classroom teachers. If you have volunteered for our school this year, and have not received an invitation, you are invited to attend this special morning tea and we look forward to seeing you there. Book lists for 2018 are now available. These have been printed and have been given to each child. If you have not received a book list please see the front office. Albany Office Products Depot is our preferred supplier and if purchases are made from them, they will donate 15-20% back to our school, which is a fantastic way to support Yakamia PS. This week our Year 6 students are at Camp Quaranup enjoying a range of activities including canoeing, raft making, archery and team building games. A big thank you to Mr Stamp, Mrs Blennerhassett and Mr Harwood for overseeing the camp. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to stay overnight and those who have gone out to visit and work with the students. The support of staff and parents allows our students to participate in this fantastic opportunity. We look forward to hearing all about their experiences when they return. Semester 2 reports will be going home on Wednesday 13 December. Please take the time to read these with your child and a reflect with them on the efforts they have made this year in their learning. Next Thursday 14 December is the last day of the 2017 school year for students. School will commence in 2018 for students on Wednesday 31 January. Class lists will be placed on the windows of the Science Room, Block 3 on Tuesday 30 January after 4:00pm. For privacy reasons we ask parents to please not take photos of these and post on social media. We endeavour to start with the set classes, however like all schools, there are at times unexpected enrolments which may require us to restructure classes. If this is the case, you will be notified by the end of Week 2. Please be aware that staff have used their professional judgement and have put a great deal of thought into class placements based on our class placement policy. The uniform shop will be open on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 January between 9:00am -10:30am for parents to purchase new uniforms for the 2018 year. A reminder that our uniform consists of a red polo shirt and green shorts, pants, skort or skirt, and a green school bucket hat. Black shorts/pants are not part of school uniform. Students are expected to wear school uniform as per our uniform policy and it is one of our PBS expected behaviours. I would like to thank all students for their efforts this year in working towards their personal best and making Yakamia a great school. I thank all staff for their dedication and support of our students, your efforts to provide a supportive learning environment are much appreciated. We wish all families a relaxing and safe holiday break and look forward to seeing you in the new year! Kind regards Gemma Larham Principal CRAIGCARE VISIT On Thursday Rooms 13 and 15 visited the residents at Craigcare to spread some Christmas cheer. Mrs Scott's class demonstrated their wonderful skills on recorder and Mrs Sandy's class showed their lovely singing. Before visiting, both classes used their cooking skills to make up some Christmas goodies and Room 13 created wonderful bookmarks to share. Afterwards, Rooms 12, 13 and 15 shared a sausage sizzle lunch and special reindeer biscuits, created by Room 15.
