ALOHA FESTIVALS ALOHA FESTIVALS RIBBONS AND POWER BANDS ARE AVAILABLE FOR SALE. WE WILL HAVE THEM AVAILABLE AT THE GENERAL MEETING. THE THEME FOR ALOHA FESTIVALS 2014 IS MALUHIA HONUA... WORLD PEACE WITH ALOHA. THE RIBBONS AND THE POWER BANDS ARE $7.00 EACH. THEY ARE NAVY BLUE AND THE BUTTON HAS THE PICTURE OF THE HOKULE A ON IT. THEY ARE REALLY NICE. THE T-SHIRTS WILL BE AVAILABLE NEXT WEEK HOPEFULLY IN TIME FOR OUR MEETING. PEARL HARBOR MEMBERS WILL BE ABLE TO BUY THE SHIRT AT A DISCOUNT RATE BECAUSE OF OUR INVOLVEMENT IN THE ALOHA FESTIVALS FLORAL PARADE. WE ARE STILL TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR MO I WAHINE AND MO`I KANE AND THE ELIGIBLE AGE IS 35 YEARS OF AGE. THE ELIGIBLE AGE FOR THE PRINCE AND PRINCESS IS 16 TO 18 YEARS OF AGE. KING KAMEHAMEHA HULA FESTIVAL (COVER STORY) "This year's event was held on Saturday June 21st at Blaisdell Arena. There were 13 halau's that participated in this event. BIG MAHALO! to PHHCC members - Nick Kapua, Michael Kapua, Lorna Pacheco, Moana Sanders, Kealani Makaiwi and keiki, Momi Phillips, Tina Andrade, Kaliko Andrade, & Kaui Kaleo, and support from Ronnie Nacapuy, Donovan Nacapuy, Liko Cooke, and Kuulei Lockwood. Some members were tasked with double duty assignments and with everyone's hard work we sucessfully were able to finished the even unscathed." HO OMAIKA I Members, Mr. and Mrs. Andre PETERS welcomed a bouncing Baby Boy on June 24, 2014 at 6:37 p.m. His name is Parker Kamakaokalani KEALOHA-PETERS. Mom and Baby are doing great. Member, Shawna LUM welcomed a healthy Baby Girl on July 2, 2014 at 12:58 a.m.. Her name is Leialani Kiyomi Kawai Hoong LUM. Mom and Baby are doing fine. Brendon Kaleiaina LEE was just voted in as the First Vice President of the Kamehameha Schools Alumni Association Oahu Region on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at their General Meeting. Way to go Kalei! John Stanley PACHECO, Jr. Is a new Battalion Chief for the Honolulu Fire Department. MAIKAI!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU! 5

NOMINATIONS CHAIR We will be electing new Officers for 2015 in our October 2014 General Meeting. According to the Constitution & By Laws the President must name a Nominations Chair. Since I will not be running for President again, I am volunteering to be the Nominations Chair for the year 2015. If you are interested in running for office, please contact me at 479-3263. Don t be shy or hilahila. It is a wonderful experience. One thing we do ask though, if you decide to run, it is your kuleana to make the meetings to insure that we have a Quorum. REPORT OF THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE The Scholarship Committee met on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 6:00 p,m. at Representative Colleen Hanabusa s Campaign Headquarters. In accordance with our Constitution & By-Laws of Pearl Harbor Hawaiian Civic Club on who should sit on the committee the Committee consisted of three members from the General Membership; Richard Naiwi Wurdeman, Esq.; Dr. Linda Nahulu, and Nola Nahulu. Three members from the Officers & Board of Directors were, Kau`ì Kaleo, Andre Peters and Moana Sanders. There were a total of eight applications that were received and all will be receiving a Scholarship. There were two returning applicants and six brand new applicants. All of the applicants met the GPA requirement of 2.0 for first time and a 2.5 for returning applicants. All the necessary information was extracted from each application and a matrix was created and provided to each committee member. This matrix was without any identification of names and other personal information. PHHCC Treasurer informed the committee Chair that there was a total of $65,485.57 in our Scholarship Fund on June 1, 2014. The Constitution and 6

By-Laws states that we are allowed to award 1/5 of the amount in scholarships which gave the Committee a total of $13,097.11 to work with. Those that will be receiving scholarships at our General Meeting this month are: NAME FIELD OF STUDY COLLEGE ALAMIDA, KATLIN ACTING UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII MANOA ANDRADE, KRISTEN NURSING COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY BUTLER, HAYDEN ART & POLITICAL UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII MANOA CUMMINGS, KEORA ELEMENTARY SCIENCE UNIVERISTY OF HAWAII MANOA EDUCATION HOLT, COLIN LAW U.S. MILITARY ACADEMY PREPARATORY SCHOOL WEST- POINT LOW, BLAINE DIGITAL DESIGN GRAND CANYON UNIVERSITY PHOENIX, ARIZONA OYAMA, KARLEE GENERAL LIBERAL LEEWARD ARTS COMMUNITY COLLEGE PACHECO, JESSICA AAS MANAGEMENT LEEWARD COMMUNITY COLLEGE 7

The Committee gave out a total of $11,000 to our scholarship applicants. The Committee awarded $1,000 to the Dr. George H. Mills and $1,000 to the Dorothy Gillett Scholarship Funds that are managed by Kamehameha Schools as we have traditionally done for several decades. These amounts were decided after the awards were decided upon for our Scholarships recipients. The Committee awarded a total of $13,000 this year in Scholarships. The Committee will be giving the Scholarship Fund back $97.11. The Committee s decisions on awards were made after much thought in regards to whether the applicants were members, according to their essays content and effort, College, years of study and Field of Study (Major). Come to the General Meeting and meet your 2014 Scholarship Recipients. Correction MITCHELL PEI RECIPIENT FOR 2014 - Michael Kapua's community involvement included active participation in Rose Lane Hula Studio with Rose Maunakea Lane of Kalihi and Palolo Valley as kumu hula. Last month's article erroneously reported Michael as part of Rose Joshua's Hula Halau. PHHCC CLUB DUES - Mahalo to all of you who have sent in your dues for 2014.
