SEBASTOPOL PRIMARY SCHOOL RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY & READY TO LEARN INFORMUS NO. 3, March 8 2018 PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE Pupil Free Day Tuesday 13th March Thanks to School Council for approving this Curriculum Day and thanks to our families for supporting the Professional Development of staff. #lifelonglearners Basketball Clinic As I type this report, the students are having a ball outside participating in the Hoops Basketball Program with Ryan and Josh from Ballarat Miners. This has been a great experience for all students. My thanks to Nadine Ogilvie for arranging this incursion. Athletics Carnival Wednesday 21st March Families and friends are invited to cheer the Sebastopol Primary School Houses: Bedggood (Blue), Wyres (Yellow) and Reynolds (Red) at the Annual Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 21st March, commencing at 9:15am. All events except High Jump will be conducted on the oval. The High Jump will be in the Atrium. In recent weeks, students have been practising for these events. The 2018 Fundraising Committee will be providing a BBQ, cold drinks and ice creams. Families will have the opportunity to Pre-Order lunches. All funds raised will be directed to our 2018 fund raising targets. We would appreciate help from 8:15am to set up shade marquees and equipment for the day. School Council AGM 6:30pm Tuesday 20th March. Nominations are welcome for our 2018 School Council. Further details about the role of a School Councillor are included in the newsletter. For further information, please contact me. Law Sense for School Leaders Mrs Williams and I attended a Law Sense Seminar for Schools in Melbourne last Thursday. Important information included Family Law, Child Safe Standards, Employee Conduct and Worksafe requirements. We are working very hard in the office to ensure our documentation meets all the guidelines and that we use the appropriate government resources so that everyone Our Visual & Performing Art classes worked together this recent weeks to produce students portraits and perform the song This is Me from the Greatest Showman at Assembly to the staff and parents. This was a moving and memorable performance from the students. The portraits are on display in our Atrium. Please make sure you have a look next time you visit. If you are interested in participating in School Governance, Policy Development and School Improvement at Sebastopol Primary School we would love to receive a nomination from you. School Council meets eight times a year/twice a term to review and approve monthly Finance Reports, review School Data, discuss School Improvement strategies and endorse School Excursions/Camps. School Council also reviews reports from Sub- Committees, the Principal and a Curriculum report. In 2018 the School Improvement goals are: improving the Educational Achievement of all students fostering Student Leadership in the school and wider community increasing Student Enrolment upgrading the Library/Integrated Learning Space Grounds Improvement - developing a Sensory Garden and remediating the oval updating school signage Fundraising Committee - $4000 Effective School Councils have a broad range of experience, skills and expertise. Face-to-face and online training is available to help councillors develop the skills and knowledge for the role. Parents/carers find their involvement satisfying and many find that children feel a greater sense of connection with the school. School Council Nominations close on Wednesday 14 th March. Voting (if required) will be conducted on Thursday 15 th March. Nomination forms are available from the School Office.
