Agenda Item Number 7.g ITEM TYPE: Discussion BOARD AGENDA ITEM TITLE: Proposed 18- School Calendar DATE: September 13, OVERVIEW: The Superintendent is proposing two options for the 18- School Calendar for students. Both proposed calendars comply with the Governor s Executive Order issued on August 31, 16, requiring schools to begin for students after the Labor Day holiday. The calendar proposals will be posted on the Carroll County Public Schools website for public and staff review and input. Highlights of the 18- School Calendars: Parent conferences will be scheduled during the evening on a schoolby-school basis. Four (4) emergency closing days are built into the calendar. School for students is proposed to begin on September 4, 18. Winter Break, including Christmas, is proposed to begin Monday, December 24, 18, with students returning on Wednesday, January 2,. The Easter Holiday, a mandated state holiday, is proposed to include Friday, April,, and Monday, April,, with students returning on Tuesday, April 23,. The last day of school for students is proposed to be: o Friday, June 14, (Proposed Calendar Attachment A) o Thursday, June 13, (Proposed Calendar Attachment B) Proposed Calendar Attachment B removes the October 8, 18 Professional Development Day for Teachers and Instructional Staff, making it a day students will attend classes. A Professional Development day of August 24, 18 has been added.
