PRINCIPAL S NEWS 12th October 2018 The theme for this year s Mental Health Week encourages people to value mental health with six steps that have been proven to improve wellbeing. They are: 1) Be active do what you can, enjoy what you do, move your mood 2) Keep learning embrace new experiences see opportunities and surprise yourself 3) Give your time, your words, your presence 4) Connect talk, listen be there 5) Take notice remember simple things that give you joy 6) Care for our planet it s the home we all share. Today I am on camp with our Year 6 students, and it is pleasing to see how well this experience lines up with the steps recommended for good mental health. They have been active and outside every day. They have learned so much through some amazing experiences. They have had time, without screens and devices, to be genuinely involved with others, and as a result they have connected more deeply with more people. They ve been made very aware of both the beauty and fragility of our planet, and the need to care for it. These students and their teachers have been sensational on camp. We have all grown from it, and enjoyed it. Please make mental health a priority in your family. It s easy enough, and it just make sense to do.
