SCC NEWS Over the last few years, there has been a significant increase in the number of reported cases of youth being exploited by their peers over the internet and/or wireless devices. When a young person s privacy suddenly goes public, the consequences can be devastating. Too many youth are dealing with online harassment it needs to stop. What s become clear is that people need a place to access information on dealing with such incidents of harassment. In the most extreme of cases, they need a place to safely report their concerns. The new website by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection can be a big help: www.needhelpnow.ca. NeedHelpNow.ca is an excellent resource that provides youth and parents with information they need. It can help parents to choose a path of action in situations of cyber bullying and harassment. Information includes how youth and parents can: recognize the warning signs of when a situation has gone too far; learn how to remove a picture/video from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media sites; establish personal boundaries; and develop problem-solving skills and manage stress. Please help get the word out about this valuable resource!
