IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER McCann Crescent, Lenah Valley Phone 6228 3335 email: ihms@catholic.tas.edu.au web: www.ihms.tas.edu.au PO Box 429 Lenah Valley 7008 No 19 14 th December 2017 Dear Parents As the 2017 school year draws to an end there are many things that, as Principal of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, I am thankful for. These are: Staff: We are extremely fortunate to have committed staff at our school. Their consistent and thorough approach to teaching and helping the students is a real blessing. I thank you for this! Board Members: I would like to thank the Advisory Board for the support that they have offered me during the year. They worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help make things happen at school. Parents: We are very fortunate that we have very committed parents in our school community. We had many volunteers that assisted in many programs and events in the school. I would like to thank them for all the support they have given the school community. Grade 6 Class: Overall you have had a very positive and productive year. We are all very proud of the way you have led our school in 2017. When I arrived at this wonderful school you were in Grade 3! Who would have thought that that this Grade 3 class, a class full of mischievous adventure and turmoil, would turn out to be such a wonderfully responsible class of leaders in Grade 6. I have enjoyed my visits to the classroom and the conversations, jokes and pranks we have all shared. Thank you for stepping up to be awesome leaders! Students of Immaculate Heart of Mary: I would like to thank all the students of our fabulous school. It has been a great pleasure to be your Principal. I continue to be impressed by the way you behave and achieve academic progress. I thank you for your welcoming and kind ways. At the end of 2017 we are sad to farewell a couple of staff members. Ms Louise Davidson (Art Teacher) is leaving us for a permanent full time position at St Mary s College. I would like to thank Louise for her commitment, expertise, dedication and the hard work put in to Immaculate Heart. Her support was superb and she taught me many things in regards to Learning Support. Ms Rosemary O Rourke (Kindergarten Teacher Assistant) is taking a year s leave to concentrate on her University studies. Rosemary will return to us in 2019. Mrs Mary-Anne Johnson (Chaplain) has decided to increase her hours at Guilford Young College. I thank Mary-Anne for her work with our children over the past 4 months.

End of Year Reports The End of Year Reports were distributed yesterday. I would like to thank all the teachers for the time spent writing their class reports. If you have any questions or queries about your child s report then please contact your classroom teacher directly to set up an interview at a mutually convenient time. Thanksgiving and Leavers Mass Yesterday we held our End of Year Thanksgiving Mass and Leaver s Ceremony. It was a beautiful event with all children participating well. All students should be very proud of their efforts. I would personally like to thank Father Emmanuel and Father Shammi. I would also like to thank Ms Bridget Cairns for the excellent job she did in preparing the Mass. She spent many personal hours preparing and it was a superb and very prayerful event. A brilliant way to finish the school year! I congratulate the following Grade 6 students who were presented with an Award: Immaculate Heart of Mary Award - William Oates St Mary MacKillop Award - Abbie Johnston Spirit of Jesus Award - Eisay Adhanom Academic Excellence Award - Liam Marshall Principal s Award - Laul Chide - Oliver Kelly Australian All Schools Athletics Championships We congratulate Harrison McLeod and Breeanna Wright who competed in the Australian All School Athletics Carnival that was held in Adelaide last weekend. Well done to Harrison who finished third in the 100m and 100m relay for his age! This was a fierce competition and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School Community is very proud of their efforts.

Family BBQ at 12pm. It is custom at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School that we finish the final day with a family BBQ. A notice was sent out today with all families to inform them about this event. We will be looking for parents/friends of the school to assist us with cooking and serving the BBQ. Please return the slip to the Office by Tuesday 19th December. Students are free to leave with their parents after this BBQ.

2018 Book and Uniform Days Thursday 1 February (2pm to 6pm) and Friday 2 February (10am to 2pm) In 2018 students will be receiving their books through school on our designated book days. These days are: Thursday 1 st February (2pm to 6pm) and Friday 2 nd February (10am to 2pm). The Uniform Store will be open the same time. All books will be in a pre-prepared pack for students to purchase. The book collection will be in the Hall and the uniform sales will be in the Uniform Shop. During 2017, we investigated our options thoroughly and thought that this option is the cheapest and most organised. We approximate around a 15% saving from last year s book supplies at Birchalls. The preferred payment for books and uniform is by pre-paying on the QKR application on your smartphone or by EFTPOS on the day. 2017 Raffle Update - Last chance - Drawn Next Tuesday at Final Assembly I remind people to please purchase your ticket for a chance to win: A Tm5 Thermomix valued at $2,089 or $2,000.00 deducted from your School Fees @ Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School ($25 a ticket - maximum 200 tickets) The raffle will be drawn at the final Assembly of the year (Tuesday 19th December).
