Curlewis Public School Newsletter Friday, March 31, 2017 Term 1 Weeks 9, 10 & 11 A Message from the Principal s Desk Dear Parents and Community Members, As we approach the end of a busy first term, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support of our wonderful students and our beautiful school. During First term there have been many highlights, some of these are: Fantastic, hardworking and happy students. Especially students in 5 & 6! Three smaller classes with awesome teachers and support staff who are about students and ensuring our programs are individually tailored to student needs. Little Stars Transition trial year program commenced this term with much excitement. New furniture in every classroom Thank you to our dedicated P&C you certainly are doing it for the kids! The kids (and even the staff) love the changes! Welcome back video on My Gunnedah went viral This video has a strong message about what a huge difference GONSKI funding is making for our students! The highest number of hits on a My Gunnedah video! (It has been shared with teachers, parents and community members in every state across Australia!) Our Breakfast Club Coordinator and Helpers Students love the variety of options! Homework Club 2 afternoons a week The fantastic Super Hero wall in the school foyer! I wonder what magical display Mrs Wise will dream up for term 2? Introduction of weekly assembly items In term 2 Little stars are performing! The biggest Easter Egg raffle in history! Thank you to everyone who donated to this and the P&C who made up the prizes. This will be drawn Friday the 7 th of April at 1pm. The huge number of volunteers and dedicated staff who freely give their time to ensure we have a truly awesome school. An awesome vegetable garden thank you students, Mrs Pepper and Mr Neil. With so many wonderful highlights in term 1 for students in our school, it is almost certain that I have missed something and I ask you to please remind me what I have missed! On a final note, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Lyon for her work at Curlewis and wish her every success with her future career aspirations. A copy of the letter sent home to 2/3/4 parents yesterday is included in this newsletter. I also would like to take this opportunity to welcome back Mrs Shauna Stoker and welcome Miss Christie Burgess School Counsellor to wonderful Curlewis! Curlewis Public School is a very busy place, some of the latest and upcoming happenings are listed below: P&C AGM Election of executive for March 2017- March 2018 term Congratulation to our 2017 P&C executive and to all new members! Your efforts and ongoing support of students are already noticeable. A massive thank you for to the P&C biannual commitment for the next 8 years to help subsidise all students participating in Canberra Excursions. Farewell Mrs Lyon A copy of the letter sent home to 2/3/4 parents yesterday is included at the back of this newsletter. Early Action for Success: Mrs Stoker has happily returned from one of the shortest retirements in history to work as our instructional leader 1 day a week until the end of 2020. Students and staff were thrilled to learn that Mrs Stoker will continue in this role. A big thank you to Mrs Maxwell who filled in for the first 8 weeks of this term. Extra Little Stars Day Parents and Community Members Welcome! We are offering an additional Little Stars Transition day on the 7 th of April (Next Friday) which will be an Easter Fun day! Our Little Stars will have a morning of Easter fun, followed by Easter Fun and Festivities. Please join us from 12:30pm for Easter Hat Parades. New School Counsellor Today staff and students had the pleasure of welcoming our new school counsellor Miss Christie Burgess. Miss Burgess has previously worked with Curlewis students, families and staff and was amazed at the incredible changes that have occurred at Curlewis PS. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Beverly Weir for her fantastic work over the past two years with students, parents and school staff. ANZAC day 2017 This year ANZAC day will be held at the end of the school holidays. Our school is playing an ever increasing role in the community s ANZAC day and we encourage all students to march with the school in the morning service. To show your support for the Curlewis ANZAC committee, please join us for weekly Friday Raffles and join in with the Family Friendly - Special Easter Seafood Raffle on Thursday 13 th April. The next town ANZAC committee meeting will be held at the Curlewis Commercial Hotel on Sunday 2 nd April, 3 pm. All welcome! Photo workshop Dear Parents and Community Members, Thank you to everyone who attended the P&C AGM last Wednesday and congratulations to everyone who took up a position. We are looking forward to having a very successful year, hope to see you all involved. There is one week left to sell raffle tickets for our Monster Easter Raffle, it is will be drawn of Friday 7 April at the Easter hat parade. ANZAC day service Student are to wear full formal school uniform for the ANZAC day March on the 25 th April. Curlewis Public Schools formal school uniform consists of Boys: grey trousers, white long sleeve shirt, green tie, grey or white socks, black shoes. Girls: winter tunic, white long sleeve shirt, green tights or white socks, black shoes. All uniforms are available for purchase from the School Office. Please be aware uniforms are sold at cost.
