Advent is a time for preparation and joyful anticipation of Christmas. In amongst the busyness and haste of our daily lives, my hope is that we all experience the peace, fellowship and goodwill that should be the most important part of our preparation for Christmas. Lord Jesus, We, who are busy, seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day. We who are anxious over many things, look forward to you coming amongst us. We are your people, walking in darkness, yet waiting for your light. Based on a prayer by Henry Nouwen School Christmas Carols Tuesday 11th December at 6:30 pm Learning Centre IONA-MARYKNOLL & KOO WEE RUP CATHOLIC PARISHES IN PARTNERSHIP Including the communities of St Joseph s, Iona; St James, Nar Nar Goon; Holy Family, Maryknoll; St John s, Koo Wee Rup and St Mary s, Lang Lang. Christmas Stall The Columba Christmas Stall will be held on Thursday 13th December in the Multi-Purpose Room. Students can select from a variety of gifts for the whole family with prices ranging from $2 $10. End of Year Mass Tuesday 18th December (9:30 am) At Iona A permission form is attached to the newsletter. Please come along to help us celebrate a wonderful year. There will be also be morning tea back at school in the Multi-purpose Room after Mass. Bunyip Community Carols Unfortunately we advertised the wrong day for the Bunyip Community Carols. The Carols will be held at the Bunyip Reserve on Friday 14th December with an 8pm start. The Carols will conclude with Fireworks at 9 pm. Fete Meeting Report The 2013 Fete should be the biggest and best ever and we welcome Andrea Williams as the Fete Co-ordinator and Kim Caldwell as Assistant Fete Co-ordinator! In the next few days Andrea will ring anyone who volunteered (at the April Meeting) to co-ordinate a stall to confirm participation. We will also send out Silent Auction letters of request this week. If you know of anyone who might like to support the Silent Auction, please contact the office with details and we will gladly send them a letter. We have just one or two further items to finalise prior to the end of the year and you may be able to help: - 1) We need to appoint: a Canteen co-ordinator (for the Fete) a PR coordinator (promotion & advertising) members of the finance team (this is a big job on the night and needs several assistants) 2) We need a printing contact (raffle tickets) 3) We would also like to introduce Sponsorship for our rides to reduce the overall cost. Sponsors will have their names/ business advertised in the newsletter prior to the fete as well as on the night. More details to follow! The next Fete Meeting will be on Friday 8th February 2013 at 9:30 am. Thank you to all those who came along to the Fete meeting last Friday it was great to have lots of fresh ideas shared! We look forward to seeing you there! Assembly The final Assembly is scheduled for Friday, 14th December at 2:45 pm in the Multi-purpose Room. The Prayer will be lead by students from Prep. Please come along and help celebrate the achievements of the students. All families are welcome to attend each Assembly. Next year the Assemblies will revert to a 2:30 pm start as we have consistently run over time this year and we will need more time next year with an extra grade and more children.

Congratulations Lauren, Grant and Tanya. We would like to acknowledge and congratulate past Columba students who received prizes at the Marist-Sion College Presentation Evening. Congratulations to: Lauren Gooden U15 Female Sports Champion Grant Agnoletto Year 10 VET Student Award Swimming Sports The Senior Swimming Sports will be held on Thursday 13th December at the Drouin Pool. It is necessary to hold a second carnival this year because the Regional Sports are in early February next year. Because the long range forecast is for hot weather next Thursday, the Swimming Sports will now be held in the morning with students returning to school by 12:30 pm. Tanya Davis Year 10 Academic Achievement Award Tanya has also been accepted to Nossal High School in Berwick and we wish her great success in her future learning. Spectators and helpers most welcome! Congratulations Vanessa Vanessa Gooden raced in the BMX Victorian Open State titles at Knox on 24th & 25th November 2012. On Saturday, Vanessa raced in the Under 10 girls Dynamite class and finished 1st in all 4 motos. On Sunday, Vanessa raced in the Under 10 girls 20 inch class and won all 4 motos to finish as Number One Victorian Under 10 Girl. All her hard work paid off as she received the Keith Williams Medal which is awarded to the most outstanding Victorian Male & Female rider at the Victorian State Championships, based on performances during the event. Well done Vanessa! New Playground Drawings for the new playground are available for viewing in the office. The students are very excited about the additional play equipment and we hope to begin construction early next year. The playground will be situated on the terraced area between the basketball court and oval. This location will minimise earthworks and reduce the overall costs. We are looking for a volunteer with earth moving equipment to level the ground. It has a slight slope and will need some work before the playground construction can commence. Please let the office know if you can help!

Congratulations to Jaimie, Charlotte, Wade and Jason who will be school leaders for the next fortnight. I am sure all our school leaders will set a great example for all Columba students to follow.
