In addition to the Fr. Preparations are also underway for our Open House on February 12th. It is very evident that St. Rose remains a school of choice for many, as we often receive inquiries about our school from outside of our area on a regular basis. The best advertising we can get is word-of-mouth. We appreciate you sharing with your family, friends and neighbours why St. Rose is a great school. Finally, February is the month in which one day is set aside for families. The Catholic Church places the highest value on families because healthy and happy families are the essential building blocks for a strong and vibrant society. May God bless all our families. 2 Administration Information The school administration has been quite busy conducting two Alberta Education surveys. The Accountability Pillar was given to students during the third week of January. The OurSCHOOL Survey was given during the last week of the month. Both surveys give the school and district valuable information to address student needs. Additionally the results of the student Accountability Pillar along with the results from parents and teachers form the basis of the school s and district s Accountability Pillar Report Card which is usually available in May. This document tracks school improvement and stakeholder satisfaction. During the Christmas Break, a new addition to the gym was installed. The metal cross serves as a symbol of our faith whenever the gym is used especially when the gym is transformed into a sacred space during our religious celebrations. The school would like to thank the supportive Parent Council for funding this impressive artwork; it is a welcome addition to the school s increasing religious artifacts collection. The school s sacramental preparation program continues. Confirmation Preparation classes have begun. The classes are instructed by Sophie Ogle, Pastoral Associate, at St. John the Evangelist Parish. There are 16 student preparing for Confirmation. We are very excited as we are about to begin our second stairwell mosaic. The planning will be taking place in February. Parent volunteers are needed (see page five) for the installation. Lastly, this is an important time of the year for grade nine students and their families. Please inform yourselves of high school open houses and registration criteria and dates. There is important information on page six. Chaplain s Corner On January 24, 2019 10 grade 9 students volunteered their time at the Edmonton Foodbank. The next opportunity for students to volunteer their time at the Edmonton Foodbank will be on Thursday April 4. Our grade 8 students will be attending the Father Michael Mireau Faith Day on February 4, 2019. This event has become an annual event for our Grade 8 students in honor of Father Michael Mireau. St. Rose students will spend the day with other grade 8 students from Edmonton Catholic Schools and surrounding school districts. This is a great day to come together and celebrate our faith. On February 5, 2019, all Edmonton Catholic Schools staff will be attending a Faith Development Day where they will celebrate mass together and listen to Steve Angrisano, as he is the speaker for the school year. The liturgical season of Lent will begin next month. In preparation for Lent we will be celebrating Shrove Tuesday with a pancake breakfast for all students on Tuesday, March 5. We will then gather on the following day, March 6, to receive our ashes for Ash Wednesday. Many blessings to the students and families for the second half of the school year.
