How to prepare for Fall 2019 Advising and Registration Advising Week is March 18 March 22 Students must schedule and attend one 20-minute appointment with your business advisor during Advising Week each fall and spring semester. You do not need to see your advisor your final semester at Marquette University. Steps to experiencing a successful advising appointment: 1. Review materials shared with you via email from the Dean s Office. 2. Sign up for an advising appointment with your advisor through his or her signupgenius link on the official advising email. Find your advisor listed in your CheckMarq account, advisors do change and you may not be with the same advisor as last semester. Be on time for your appointment, do not sign up for multiple times and sign up early to guarantee an appointment. 3. Complete the PREP survey which will print out your Course Plan Sheet and Advisor Verification Form. PREP stands for Prepare and Review your Educational Plan. Follow all directions in the online survey: mu.edu/prep. 4. Bring with you to your appointment: Graduation Checklist Course Plan Sheet from PREP survey Advisor Verification Form from PREP survey 5. Turn in your signed Advisor Verification Form to the Dean s Office, room DS101 by Friday, March 22 at 4:30 p.m. in order to remove the College Registration Hold that is placed on all student s accounts prior to advising. This hold is only removed with a signed verification form. Students who turn in a signed form after the Friday, March 22 at 4:30 p.m. deadline will not have their hold removed until the last day of fall registration appointments. Meeting Expectations: Prepare and come with questions. Review upcoming course options; it is a student s responsibility to understand the graduation checklist and plan for the next semester. The role of a faculty advisor is not to tell you what to take. Have your advisor sign your Advisor Verification form, and turn in your signed form to DS101 no later than Friday, March 22 at 4:30 p.m. Registration Quick Notes: Registration appointment times begin on March 25. Marquette University Summer 2019 course registration begins March 21 for all. Make sure you do not have any account holds that will prevent you from registering. Holds include: Academic Integrity Tutorial, College Advising, and Bursar, among others. Find these on the Student Center of CheckMarq. More information about registration will be shared via email with students in the college.

College of Business Administration QUICK REFERENCE SHEET: How to find and print your Graduation Checklist 1. Log into CheckMarq, and click View my advisement reports in the Academics tab 2. Click View Graduation Checklist 3. Once open in a new screen, you can print your graduation checklist. It should be three to four pages long. 4. When using Apple products to view, you may have trouble opening the Graduation Checklist PDF. Recommendations for opening the document include: allow pop-ups, clear your cache, log into CheckMarq through a different browser, or opening and printing from a PC. 5. BRING YOUR GRADUATION CHECKLIST TO ANY ADVISING MEETING NOTE: Any inaccuracies, errors, discrepancies, etc. in your report, please visit the Dean s Office, DS101

Next, focus on what non-business requirements are needed and when it makes sense to enroll. What else to consider when determining upcoming courses Prerequisites Consider prerequisite requirements for each of the courses you are selecting:

Course Selection Guide for Fall 2019 Declaring a Discovery Tier Theme Once a student has determined which theme may be the right fit, submit a Declaration or Change of Marquette Core Curriculum Discovery Tier Theme form. This will allow the theme to appear on a graduation checklist. Students do not have to declare a theme in order to enroll in one of the courses. Students can change Discovery Tier Themes, but courses previously taken may not apply to the new selected theme. Substitute a UCCS course The new Marquette Core Curriculum has created some interesting and new courses that are not currently listed as fulfilling the UCCS requirements. If a course is found desirable, students admitted prior to Summer 2018 can request the substitution of a Marquette Core Curriculum (MCC) course for a requirement in the University Core of Common Studies (UCCS). Students will need to complete and submit the University Core of Common Studies Substitution form. THEO, HIST, ENGL among others, have options. Summer Course Registration Consider a summer course at Marquette University (in person or online) or at another institution. Registration for Summer 2019 at Marquette University begins on March 21. If you decide to take a course elsewhere, remember that MATH 1400 and all business courses must be taken at Marquette University, unless as part of an approved study abroad program. Use the External Transfer Course Request preapproval form prior to enrolling in a course at another institution. Internship for Credit Students often pursue internship for credit opportunities. This for-credit option does count towards some of the college s major requirements. See more details at the end of the Advising Resource Guide or reach out to the Business Career Center directly for more information. New Courses Approved for Fall 2019-Spring 2020 Academic Year New courses have been added to the 2019-20 Bulletin and may be offered in Fall 2019. Find more details after all 11 Major Requirements Sheets in this packet. UNIVERSITY CORE OF COMMON STUDIES (UCCS) OLD CORE REMINDERS Notes for students who began at Marquette prior to Fall 2018 UCCS Core Reminders All core requirement details can be found here All requirements must be satisfied in order to graduate. University Core requirements such as two ENGL courses, two THEO courses, Literature, etc. cannot be modified. The Literature requirement for ALL College of Business Administration students must be a Literature course (no MUSI, THAR, etc.). Other colleges may allow Performing Arts courses, but this college does not. Any taken will appear as Non-Business electives on your Graduation Checklist and will not fulfill the Literature requirement. PHIL Courses o PHIL 1001 is no longer a prerequisite for PHIL 2310. o PHIL 2310 is not part of the new core requirements, it will slowly phase out. Take this in an upcoming semester as section availability will be limited going forward. Dual application course options within the UCCS o Each student may count one dual-application course toward his or her core requirements. o This satisfies core course requirements in two knowledge areas. I.e. HIST 1301 (Latin America) satisfies three credit hours in requirements of Histories of Cultures and Societies AND Diverse Cultures o Students still need to make up the additional three-credits. UCCS Students can substitute a UCCS requirement with a Marquette Core Curriculum (MCC) course. o In general, students entering to prior to fall of UCCS are expected to complete their UCCS requirements as planned. However, for students with special concerns making finding classes to graduate on time particularly challenging, the MCC has identified that the following MCC courses can substitute for UCCS requirements. Students may not double dip that is each MCC substitution can be used to fulfill only one UCCS requirement. These substitutions apply only to courses taken in Fall 2018 or after. Any student who wishes to substitute an MCC course for a UCCS course needs to complete a University Core of Common Studies Substitution form. Courses in MCC may be taken to substitute for UCCS Requirement ESSV Foundations may be taken to substitute for Diverse Cultures ESSV or Discovery course: Any may be taken to substitute for History of Cultures and Societies HIST offering ESSV or Discovery course: Any may be taken to substitute for Literature & Performing Arts ENGL literature offering Any Theo Offering (in MCC or may be taken to substitute for Theology (second course) not) Discovery course: Any Social Science may be taken to substitute for Individual and Social behavior Discovery course: Any Math Discovery course: Any Natural Science Writing Intensive Designated course may be taken to substitute for may be taken to substitute for Mathematical Reasoning Science and Nature may be taken to substitute for ENGL 1002

Business Core and Major Requirements Declaring a major o Major grading o o Students are able to declare or adjust a business major on the forms page of the College s website. The specific form is found here. A grade of C or higher must be earned in each of a student's major courses including the core courses introducing the major (i.e. ECON 1103/1104 for Economics Majors and MARK 3001 for Marketing majors) Accounting students must earn a C or better in ACCO 1030 Principles of Financial Accounting and ACCO 1031 Principles of Managerial Accounting prior to enrolling in ACCO 3001 Intermediate Accounting. ECON 3001 o ECON 3001 is no longer required for students, but it cannot be removed from your checklist. In lieu of ECON 3001 an additional Upper Division Business Elective is required essentially requiring 10 Upper Division Business Electives to graduate whether or not you are a double major. You can still select ECON 3001 as one of the ten courses. If you are a double major, but prior to graduation decide to drop one major, you will still need 10 upper division business electives complete in order to graduate.

MARQUETTE CORE CURRICULUM (MCC) NEW CORE REMINDERS Notes for students who began at Marquette in Fall 2018 or Spring 2019 Consider for next semester: Complete remaining foundation course needs, CORE 1929 or select a Discovery Tier Theme and course from within that theme ECON 1104 1-2 Business Core courses (3001) CMST 2300 (1 st or 2 nd semester) LEAD 2000 (1 st or 2 nd semester) Marquette Core Curriculum Requirements See separate guide that was emailed to all students about the Marquette Core Curriculum including a one-page guide and full details on the Marquette Core Curriculum. Double Counting of Courses: A maximum of two courses in the Discovery Tier can be applied towards one major. Any course that double counts for satisfying requirements only counts as three credits, not six Students will need to take an additional course(s) in non-business or business to reach 129 total credits. Once a student has determined which theme may be the right fit, submit a Declaration or Change of Marquette Core Curriculum Discovery Tier Theme form. This will allow the theme to appear on a graduation checklist. Students do not have to declare a theme in order to enroll in one of the courses. Students can change Discovery Tier Themes, but courses previously taken may not apply to the new selected theme. Note: freshmen do not need to do this right now, there is no rush to declare a theme. Declaring a major Students are able to declare or adjust a business major on the forms page of the College s website. The specific form is found here.
