FACEBOOK Town Centre Private Schools INSTAGRAM town_centre_elementary town_centre_highschool June 2018 We are very pleased to announce that Grade 12 TCPS student, Anabela Cotovio, won an Excellence Award Silver Medal for her project, The Role of Microglia TREM2 on the Progression of Alzheimer s Disease at the Canada-Wide Science Fair. Anabela also was awarded $10,500 in university scholarships! Anabela was one of 500 secondary students who were selected from roughly 25,000 students who participated in regional fairs from across Canada. Anabela attended as one of 11 Team York Region members and as Chair Leader of Team Ontario. Her project used mathematical modelling to track changes in a protein, called TREM2, in the brain. Her findings have led to proposed early detection methods and treatments which can slow down the progression of Alzheimer s Disease. Anabela was excited to meet people from all over Canada. The people I met were the best part of it, both the students and profs, she said. Even if I didn t get that medal I would be extremely proud of myself. Excellence Award Silver Medalist With a keen interest in neurology, Anabela is looking forward to her first year at McMaster University s Health Sciences program, as one of only 120 students admitted out of 6000 applicants set to begin September 2018. Please join us in congratulating Anabela on her outstanding achievement! Keep updated with the latest news and events! Help us grow our presence! Follow us on social media! TWITTER TCMPS@TCMPS

Main Campus Elementary Information Bulletin Page 2 Announcing the Retirement of Mrs. Edna Gardner After a long tenure of 32 years, having started as an inaugural member of the staff at TCPS commencing in 1986, it is with mixed feelings we announce that Mrs. Edna Gardner will be retiring on June 29, 2018. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to David and Iris Beatty, Edna has one older sister. The Beatty family moved to Canada in 1959 when Edna was 4 years old. Edna is married and has 2 sons. She s also a grandmother of two girls who are currently attending TCPS. Edna joined TCPS in September 1986 when the school opened and taught along with our Director, Mrs. Marianne Vanderlugt. We have certainly celebrated many great moments with Edna. From hellos and goodbyes, trials and jubilations, highs and lows, all the wonderful memories we have built up over the 32 years are beyond words. Edna is a hands-on educator who has years of experience and a genuine interest in children and their well- being. Over the years Edna has given many tours to prospective parents and put her heart and soul into every one of them. We will miss Edna, and will never forget her contributions to our school. Please join us in wishing Edna all the best in her well deserved retirement and may she make many new memories and adventures with her family and friends!
