1. Introduction Book fair plays a vital role in our societies. While book fairs promote books and reading habits, their professional equivalents allow publisher, agents, distributors and retailers to meet and do real business. They also draw media and public attention to the book industry and provide platforms for authors to meet readers. Book fairs give the scope to be a place where many creative professions converge. We have arranged a community oriented Book Fair for first time in our college premises where all the students, staff, guardians of the students, ex students, people of the locality, students and teachers of the nearby schools came and enjoyed hopping the book stalls. 2. Invitation Teachers, non teaching staff and students from all the schools of the nearest locality and all the colleges under West Bengal State University, Librarians and library staff of local libraries, representatives from local administration i.e., Block Development Officer, Deganga Block, Officer In Charge, Deganga Police Station, MLA of Deganga Assembly Constituency, MP of Barasat Parliament Constituency, other representatives from different communities of this locality, educationist and authors of this locality, Ex- Principle and ex- students of our college were invited in this Book Fair. Honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Basab Chaudhuri, Eminent Writer Swapnamoy Chakraborty, Janesh Bhattacharjee and Dilip Mistry were invited in the inauguration ceremony. 4. Advertisement Flex and banner for announcement of the Date, venue, time and programme schedule of the book fair were displayed inside and outside our college and different road junctions in this locality. Social networking site like facebook and whatsapp were used to share the news of the Book fair. Public Address system of our college were used for last one month for announcing the details of the Book fair and competition for our students. 5. Inauguration The fair is inaugurated with inaugural song leading by our cultural Committee Co-ordinator, Dr.Mili Dutta Pal with the teachers and students of our college. Our Honourable Vice Chancellor of West Bengal State University inagurated the 2

programme. Our chief guest was eminent writer Swapnamoy Chakraborty. Among the other eminent writers Mr. Janesh Bhattacharyya, Mr. Dilip Mistry were present there and made our 1 st year book fair successful. President of GB of our college Mr. Anisur Rahaman was also present there. In this programme a book Status of Tribes in North Esat India, edited by Arabinda Shit, Assistant Professor of history also inaugurated by our honourable VC and our respected Principal Sir. The inauguration programme was ended with the vote of thanks by the Librarian, Paramita Sen. 6. Cultural Programme Day 1: Cultural programme started with inagural song leading by our cultural Committee Convenor, Dr.Mili Dutta Pal with other teachers and students of our college, following the series of programmes like inaugural speech by our principal and guests, solo and group performance by the staff and students of our college. One of our teachers, Aniruddha Ali Akhtar, Dept. of Bengali presented his creative art by a solo performance. Our library staff Sagarmay Chakraborty recited poems, Saurav Chatterjee recited his own poem. A guest performer Mr. Ratan Bose recited poems. Day 2: The 2 nd day became successful by the series of solo songs and recitations by teachers and students of our college. A Drama recitation on book reading theme was prepared by Head of the Department of Political Science, Dr. Uttam Kumar Dalal and the drama recitation was performed by our teachers and students jointly. Day 3: The day started with the song by teachers and students. After that some solo performance by our students following with the quiz competition made the day joyful. Lastly the program ended with awarded distribution, a group song and vote of thanks by our IQAC Co-ordinator, Dr. Sudeshna Biswas. 3

7. List of stalls There were 32 stalls including different publishers, little magazine, awareness stall of police, Kanyasree stall by our college staff Raja Biswas, stall of our college museum by Abdul Hamid and other staff, a stall of our college with the publications of our college, 4 stalls by our library staff Gaffar Ali Mondal, stall of SBI, Allahabad Bank. All the stalls and the stage were decorated by the students of Dept. of Agriculture and Rural Development under the supervision of our Decoration committee Convenor, Himanish Bhattacharyya. 10. Competition There was three competition - Essay, recitation and quiz competition running simultaneously beside the cultural programme in those three days of the book fair. All the competitions are jointly organized by Central Library and IQAC, CSSM. Competition Committee Convener, Dr. Sourabh Bhattaryya gave a great effort for three days to make the events successful. Day 1 There was an essay competition for the students of our college the topic of which was Explosion of information and a modern Library. Awards are given to the students who stood first, second and third. The name of them are as follows : 1 ST Sattwaki Chakraborty,Roll 1161943 of English Department 2 nd Sumana Paul, Roll 1150616 of Bengali Department 3 rd Roll Sukla Pal, 1150054 of Bengali Department Day2 In the second day 5 th January, we organized a recitation competition. Mr. Gopal Das, Secretary of Spandan Natya Sanstha was external judge and Dr. Saurabh Bhattacharyya internal judge for the recitation competition. Each student was given 5 minutes to recite any poem of any poet according to their choice. There were 10 participant out of which three were chosen as first, second and third. Arpan Biswas stood first, Sandipa Chakraborty and Pratik aich, students of 2 nd year Became second and third respectively. 6

Day3 In the third day a quiz competition was organized, each group consist of two students. Total 26 students participated in the competition. Out of 13 groups two groups were chosen as first and second. 11. Award distribution Award to the successful competitors were distributed on 6 th January at the end ceremony of Book fair by the Principal and other teachers of our college. 12. End ceremony After three days book fair with cultural programmes and competitions, on 6 th Jan the programme ended with award distribution to the students who stood first, second and third in the competitions and vote of thanks by Dr. Sudeshna Biswas, coordinator of IQAC. 13. Calendar A new year calendar has been published at the end ceremony on 6 th January, 2018 with the pictures of different moments of the book fair. The Calendar was published by our honourable Principal, Dr. Saroj Kumar Chattopadhyay. 14. Media Esteemed daily newspaper Anandabazar Patrika published the 7

news of book fair. In 24 Hours news channel also, the news of our book fair was telecasted at the evening on 04/01/2018 (1st day of the fair). 15. Conclusion We have tried our best to make the 1 st Year Book Fair successful and it achieves a grand success also. Students of NSS gave volunteer service, students of cultural team performed with best effort for long three days and the students in agriculture department who were engaged in decoration, worked hard for making best decoration. The student union helped a lot to make the whole events successful. All our college staff gave their great effort to make the fair successful. We hope next year we will try to bring more publishers to make our book fair more prosperous with knowledge resources which will enrich our student community as well as teacher, staff, local people also.
