Newsletter Issue 05 Contents Sports news Fairtrade /Food news Macmillan Cake sale Duke of Edinburgh Year 11 Dropin Dates and Events Message from the Principal Dear Parents and Carers It was good to see many of you at our Year 8 Tutor s Evening and meet new tutors in some cases. We appreciate the time you invest with us and I would ask you to email the form tutor if you didn t manage to join us on Wednesday. The next Parents Evening is for Year 11 on Wednesday 10 th October and I would urge all parents of Year 11 to make time for this. This is a very valuable opportunity to discuss progress with each subject teacher. We will be writing to parents soon regarding this but I would ask you to keep the date for that evening. On Tuesday, we welcomed a production of the play Going to Extremes written for schools and performed for our Year 9 students. The play was developed out of a growing need to kick start conversations and build resilience around extremism and radicalisation. It explores farright political as well as Islamistinspired extremism. It looks at what happened to three young people, who each had their own vulnerabilities, that found themselves targeted by individuals or groups that wanted to use them for their own agenda. We appreciate the work of Mrs Terry to organise this event and facilitate conversations around these issues as part of our Citizenship programme. Just a reminder that we have made a change to our Parents Evening for Year 10 which is now scheduled for Thursday 8 th November 2018. Have a good weekend Julie McBrearty Principal
