Newsletter Issue 05 Contents Sports news Fairtrade /Food news Macmillan Cake sale Duke of Edinburgh Year 11 Dropin Dates and Events Message from the Principal Dear Parents and Carers It was good to see many of you at our Year 8 Tutor s Evening and meet new tutors in some cases. We appreciate the time you invest with us and I would ask you to email the form tutor if you didn t manage to join us on Wednesday. The next Parents Evening is for Year 11 on Wednesday 10 th October and I would urge all parents of Year 11 to make time for this. This is a very valuable opportunity to discuss progress with each subject teacher. We will be writing to parents soon regarding this but I would ask you to keep the date for that evening. On Tuesday, we welcomed a production of the play Going to Extremes written for schools and performed for our Year 9 students. The play was developed out of a growing need to kick start conversations and build resilience around extremism and radicalisation. It explores farright political as well as Islamistinspired extremism. It looks at what happened to three young people, who each had their own vulnerabilities, that found themselves targeted by individuals or groups that wanted to use them for their own agenda. We appreciate the work of Mrs Terry to organise this event and facilitate conversations around these issues as part of our Citizenship programme. Just a reminder that we have made a change to our Parents Evening for Year 10 which is now scheduled for Thursday 8 th November 2018. Have a good weekend Julie McBrearty Principal

FOOTBALL RESULTS There were some excellent performances from the school football teams this week away at Lutterworth High School: Year 7s won 91 Year 8s won 61 Year 9s lost 32 Year 11s lost 101 Next week all age groups play away at Countesthorpe and Leysland Community College NETBALL RESULTS What a great start to the year for WPA netball. After completing 11 fixtures so far, we have come away with 5 wins, 1 draw and 5 loses. The year 7's have made an exciting start, winning their first two fixtures (13 1 and 6 5). Likewise, the year 8 's have worked incredibly hard to secure two impressive wins (18 1 and 16 8). All teams have played with outstanding effort and have learned a lot during the matches. Well done to all those who have played and good luck to all teams in their fixtures next week against Countesthorpe Leysland Community College.

Fairtrade Rice Challenge The Welland Park Fairtrade Team have been out and about at Open Evening and at Year 8 Parents Evening selling bags of Fairtrade Rice. This is part of the Rice Challenge campaign, which we are taking part in, alongside the Market Harborough Fairtrade Town group. If we can sell 90 onekilogram bags of Kilombero rice, then a Malawian farmer can afford to send one child to secondary school for one year. A big thank you to everyone who has already bought a bag of rice. We have a few left so if you would like to buy some please bring 3 to Mrs Russell in L2, where they will be available while stocks last! Look out for the Market Harborough Fairtrade Town group who are selling the rice out and about in town over the next few weeks.
