Dasgupta, Senior Specialist on Employment and Labour Market Policies, ILO South Asia Project Coordinator for the UNDP, Ministry of Rural Development and Planning Commission India funded project: Monitoring and Evaluation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in the states of Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh The first phase of the project included pilot survey by coordinator and - 2 -

collection of primary data to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the NREGA in its initial phase of implementation in 8 of the most backward districts across 4 states Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. The main study was conducted under the auspices of the Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability, New Delhi. It was based on field surveys over the months of May and June 2006, by 70 students from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University and Hyderabad Central University. The survey was conducted under overall guidance of Professor Jean Drèze (Centre for Development Economics, Delhi University and GB Pant Institute of Social Sciences, Allahabad), Professor Jayati Ghosh and Dr. Praveen Jha (both from Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi) and Professor Kamal Chenoy (School of International Studies, JNU). The final report was written by Professor Jayati Ghosh, Dr. Himanshu and me. This was submitted to UNDP, Ministry of Rural Development and Planning Commission in 2006. November to December 2005 December 2001 to January 2002 September 2001 May to June 2001 Researcher on project: Communalism, Class and Human Security at Jaipur & New Delhi under Prof. Anuradha Chenoy (JNU) and Dr. Shiv Kumar (Harvard University). Researcher on project funded by the Department of Small Scale Enterprises, Government of India. The project was titled: Impact of WTO on Indian Small Scale Sector with special focus on hand tool industry under the supervision of Dr. G.N. Gandhi Researcher for the project: Tariffs under WTO funded by the Department of Trade and Commerce, Government of India, under the supervision of Dr. S.
