It has been a pleasure to witness, during my first 8 weeks as Principal, the positive attitude and relationships of our students and staff. Parents have contributed equally through PMP, School Camp, the Harmony Fiesta, school maintenance, reading sessions before school and day-to-day partnerships. Enjoy the school holidays, thank you for a great start to the year and see you on Tuesday 18 th April. School Council The School Council AGM was held on Tuesday 21 st March. The meeting provided a time to reflect and acknowledge the 2016 school year. This was highlighted through the presentation of the 2016 Annual Report to the school community. Office bearers for 2017 include: Executive Officer President Vice-President Secretary Treasurer Committee Robbie Mallett (DET) Joshua Bernshaw Aamod Pradhan Karen Mackay (DET) Jan Schache (DET) Erin Beissel (DET), Christine Asmanis, Sandeep Chalil, Christian Kelleher, Lindsay Armatas Lesley McLeod Harmony Day Fiesta Thursday 16 th March Woweeee the evening certainly lived up to expectation! Greek National Day Approximately 32 students and their parents attended the Greek National Day in the city on Sunday. I believe that Clarinda PS was the only DET Primary School that attended the event well done! I would like to thank Meny Zapantis, Rosey Xenofontas, Elena Ziebell and Arg Lianos for their supervision of the day. Big thumbs up to Meny Zapantis for co-ordinating the day of celebrations. Gundwindi School Camp Our campers arrived back at school last Wednesday with weary bodies but large smiles. I had the pleasure of spending Tuesday at camp. During my time at camp I witnessed the students persisting, collaborating, getting along, displaying sportsmanship and initiative during their rotation activities. Staff have reported that the camp staff and bus drivers acknowledged the beautiful behaviour and manners that our students displayed. I am sure that you will agree with me, that we are most grateful to the staff, who gave up their time to attend the camp with your child! Parents Club Expression of Interest to form and join! An integral part of the school community is the Parents Club. The role of the Parents Club is to provide support, in various forms, for the school, its students and community. They work in co-operation with the Principal, staff and School Council in building effective partnerships between home and school. Parents Club contribute to events and activities that raise funds for the school, promote links between teachers, parents and the wider community and work in consultation with the Principal. As we do not currently run a Parents Club, l am calling on parents to express their interest in forming a new Parents Club by emailing me at clarinda.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au. The Parents club will begin by forming a constitution and policy. This will provide clarity to the duty of the Parents Club and the inclusiveness of all community members. The anticipated first meeting will be in late April/early May. Working Bee The first Working Bee has been scheduled for Saturday 29 th April from 9:30am-11:30am. The Working Bee will conclude with a Sausage Sizzle BBQ and refreshments. Working Bees provide an opportunity for families to come together to complete projects around the school. Such projects help to enhance the environment which our students can learn, play and grow. By volunteering your time, outsourcing/labour costs can be redirected back into essential resourcing of the curriculum for teaching and learning. More details will be sent home at the beginning of Term 2. Working Bee dates are: Term 2: Saturday 29 th April. Term 3: Sunday 30 th July. Term 4: Saturday 21 st October or Sunday 22 nd October (TBC) Cheers, Robbie Mallett
