Principal s Comment ANZAC Services Students from our school took part in three separate ANZAC services over the past week. Congratulations to all who contributed, especially Laurence Palmer (grandparent of Ben, Abby and Michael) for his rendition of the Last Post and Angus in Year 6 for his outstanding bagpipe performance. EDUCATION WEEK This week will be upon us before we know it! There are a number of special activities planned, which we will inform you of in the coming weeks. This year Grandparents and Special Friends Day will be held on Wednesday 24 th May. NAPLAN The annual NAPLAN testing will be held this term on 9 th, 10 th and 11 th May. This testing is for all students in Years 3 and 5. Areas of the curriculum to be tested are Language Conventions, Writing, Reading and Numeracy. Students generally enjoy doing these tests and they provide some good data for our school. If any parents require any further information, please see Kerrie in the Office. Hats Last day for hats tomorrow. Parking There will be some changes over the next few months to the parking in the side road beside the school. There is information on the website about the changes. P.E. News House Cross Country The annual House Cross Country will take place on Wednesday the 3 rd May. This is in week 3 of Term 2 and will be run between 11:30 and 1:30. This is always a great whole school event full of colour and lots of cheering and will form the selection process for the District Cross Country Team for students in 3-6. As with all events, we will need some parent assistance on the day to help marshal around the course and place runners at the finish line, so if you are able to help out a little or a lot, please let me know. House Cross Country Times Here are the approximate times that each age group will be running on the day. If there are any other parents that can help on the day, please let me or your child s teacher know. 12-13 years 11:40 Preps 12:10 9 & 10 years 12:20 year 1 12:40 year 2 12:50 11 years 1:00 Winter Inter School Sport The Level 5/6 students will be starting their Winter School Sport competition on the 28 th April and it will run for the whole term. They will be playing seven different sports against four other schools, playing each school twice along the way. If there are any 5/6 parents who are able to help coach, train or just help out each Friday between 1pm and 3pm, please let me or the Level 5/6 teachers know. Please meet at the office at 9:00am. Performing Arts News Wacky Instruments - Preps Thank you to everyone who has donated materials for the wacky instruments the Preps are making this term. We no longer need anymore paper towel rolls or bottles, but would still appreciate some more coffee tins (or milo, powder, etc.) and shoe boxes. Junior Choir Kinder Visit Due to bad weather the Junior Choir kinder visit to Tarralla Kindergarten and Good Start Early Learning did not occur in the last week of Term 1. Fortunately we have been able to re-schedule the visit for Monday 15th May in the choirs regular rehearsal time, 1:00-3:30pm. Senior Choir at Ferndale Gardens Notices for the Senior Choir visits to Ferndale Gardens on Tuesday 16th & 23rd May, 1:00-3:30pm, went home this week. Grade 3 & 4 students will visit on Tuesday 16th May and Grade 5 & 6 students will visit on Tuesday 23rd May. Maroondah All Inclusive The Senior Choir and Percussion Group will once again be participating in the Maroondah All Inclusive concert on Wednesday 7th June at Karralyka Centre, Ringwood, 7pm. We hope to see as many students and parents as possible there on the night. It s a fabulous evening for everyone involved. Dance Club Dance Club is being run by an enthusiastic group of Grade 3-6 students during Monday lunchtimes in the gym. Students from all year levels are most welcome and encouraged to come along and participate. Beth Stephen
