In honor of Marine Week in Charlotte, we will have a Military Chopper Fly Over between 6:30-6:45 and then Kickoff at 7:00 pm. Please join us for the festivities and be IN the stadium by 6:15 to get a seat. Next Friday Night, 9/14/18, is a special night as we will be having Futbol Friday Night featuring a thrilling soccer game between YOUR Porter Ridge PIRATES and the MRHS Mavericks. The first 100 Porter Ridge High School students to enter the stadium - dressed in Pirate gear or spirit wear will get a fantastic PURPLE Horn to cheer on our Pirates!! Come start this great tradition with us next week! Thank you to all parents and students that came out to our 18-19 Meet the Teacher Night earlier this week! It was great to meet you and welcome you to our school year! We had a record crowd at our Senior Information Night as well and followed that up with a Senior Meeting the following day to review some important Naviance Student Info with our Seniors. Individual Senior Counselor Meetings start next week. This year we are focusing in on College AND Career Readiness with all of our grade levels. We will be doing this through our Wednesday Pirate Advisory where students will meet with their Advisor and work on college/career readiness skills, social-emotional learning, and study and communication skills. Additionally our Juniors will be working on ACT preparation during these meetings. In order to support our student learning in their classes we are continuing our Pirate Prep time with class teachers during the school day. Please check the counseling page for important information on college scholarships, financial aid, and testing deadlines. Encourage your students to check out our announcements over the PA and on the screens at school. Club meetings are starting and we encourage every student to get involved in a club, group, or athletic team. Participation is an important part of our students development. Please remember the School day start The bell to move to class rings at 7:50 am. The Tardy Bell rings at 8:00 am. If you are driving your child, or if your child is driving themselves, plan to arrive at the school by 7:30 to be sure you are on time due to traffic. Scholarships- Where to find Naviance District list of scholarships and scholarship search engine Websites of colleges you are applying to Parents work or other organizations they may belong to Visit https://www.ucps.k12.nc.us/page/4988 for a list of free scholarship search engines Major Scholarships Some major universities have competitions to select students for full-ride scholarships. These are highly competitive. At Porter Ridge, students apply to be considered as the PRHS school nominee. Students complete an application and our school scholarship committee, consisting of school counselors, an administrator and teachers, reviews the applications of students and chooses our school nominee(s). The student(s) selected as our school nominee then applies directly to the institution for the larger competition. Below are links to the applications of the individual scholarships. Please note the deadlines are designed to allow time for our scholarship committee to meet and review the student applications. These deadlines are final. No exception. Some of the scholarships allow students to self-nominate if they are not chosen as their school's nominee. Please see the individual scholarship websites for more information.
