One team that stands out in particular is Coach Lauren s volleyball team. With a 10-0 season, the INSIDE THIS ISSUE laws October 2017 girls faced Nims on Monday, October 9 to secure themselves a Division 1A Championship! Here s what Naomi Somerset had to say after their big win: The championship was an awesome way to end my final season of volleyball here at Cobb! The team will be saying goodbye to a few notable 8th graders, Naomi Somerset, Sophie Beckham, Madison McNealy, and Mauriona King, but Head Coach, Lauren, will be looking forward to working toward another championship next year. The teachers and staff strongly believe and strive daily to holding true to our motto of Excellent on Purpose and accomplishing our mission to Provide high standards of education in a caring and safe learning environment that prepares all students for high school and beyond. Our programs are structured to provide excitement and ensure that all students continue to receive a comprehensive and challenging education. Leon County Schools continues the use of the Parent Portal for the 2017-18 school year. Parents can be kept current on critical due dates, attendance, and student progress by establishing email notifications! At Cobb, we value parental and community involvement at our school; therefore, we encourage parents to get involved. As educational allies, we all share the responsibility for our children s success. When on the Cobb homepage, click the blue cloud icon on the top right corner of the screen or go to https://launchpad.classlink.com/leonschools When logging in from HOME: Students MUST use their FULL username (their 9 digit student number followed by @edu.leon.schools.net) Example: 171012345@edu.leonschools.net Media Center Memo From Mrs. West Our Media Center has been very busy since the start of the school year. We have had over 452 checkouts thus far, and numerous students/classes have been here daily to use our available resources. Students may keep books for 2 weeks at a time and may renew them, if needed, beyond that point. Overdue notices will be sent out periodically reminding students to round up their borrowed books and bring them back to our Media Center (this includes books from past elementary media centers). Parents, please check with your child from time to time to see if they have any overdue books. If so, please have them check EVERYWHERE to find them and turn them in! Book Club Attention all book lovers! Mrs. Stolp is starting up her Book Club again this year. All are welcome to join the club on Monday mornings from 8:45-9:20. Here are five great reasons why you should join her book club. 1) You get to meet new people/ friends. 2) You can expand your reading horizons, your vocab, your knowledge. 3) You will have something to do in your free time. 4) You are given books to read for free. 5) You can get a better understanding of the world around you. So come to Mrs. Stolp's room (near the Main Office) and read your heart out with some friends! There are few things as magical as a book club. 2017-2018 Yearbooks are now on sale. Pre-order yours today for $45.00. Make sure to order yours before winter break; the price goes up to $50 starting January 1st!. 2017-2018 YEARBOOKS Stay tuned for information on purchasing 8th grade advertisements for your graduating cub! Cobb Family Night Come out and help support our magnificent Cobb Chorus program at Skate World. Cobb students and families will have the chance to get exclusive prices during this fun-filled four hour event on Thursday, October 19, 2017. From 4:00 to 8:30PM, you can purchase your first activity for only $6.50. Additional activities are available for $4.00. Skating can be tiring and make you hungry, and domino s pizza will be sold to hungry cubs for only $1.50 per slice. 100% of the proceeds from your first activity purchase will go to our Chorus program here at Cobb. Join us on October 19 for a night of fun, food, and friends! PAGE 2

Grade Level Updates 6th Grade 7th Grade 8th Grade Are you a 6th grader looking to be a part of one of the best field trips in the universe? Then the 6th grade Universal Orlando field trip may be just the thing you need. The trip will take place March 9, 2018. Students were sent home with permission/ information forms. Are you a 7th grader in search of adventure? Then the 7th grade Islands of Adventure field trip may be what you re looking for. The trip will take place March 9, 2018. More information will be sent home with reports cards on October 25. The 8th Grate Team asks that parents/guardians keep a close eye on Parent Portal, and talk with your child about what they re doing in their classes.
