Armadale Primary School LOOSE PARTS SHED From Ms Blundell... With Term 4 in full swing we are finding that we are exceedingly busy with lots of activities and events happening in the school. With the warmer weather approaching please make sure your child has a hat, especially for sporting activities and a drink bottle with water in it that the student can have on their desk is ideal. Reconfiguration of the school day: With the reconfiguration of the school day for 2019 the following outlines the school and lesson times: Upcoming dates: 8.25am Class doors open for students 13th Nov School Concert Night 15th Nov KSHS Music Incursion 16th Nov Fathering Project BBQ Breakfast 3rd Dec Yr 6 Water Slide Day 3rd Dec PP-Yr 2 Swimming lessons commence 4th Dec Yr 6 Dinner Dance 5th Dec Yr 1-2 Water Fun Day 8.30am Siren to start the day 8.40am 10.40am Sessions 1 & 2 10.40am 11am Recess 11am 1pm Sessions 3 & 4 1pm 1.40pm Lunch 1.40pm 2.45pm Session 5 There will not be early close next year with each day finishing at 2.45pm Snakes and warm weather: As we approach the warmer weather and being surrounded by bushland, it is a good time to remind your child/children about the dangers of snakes. Whilst it doesn t happen often, snakes have made their way into the school and children need to leave them alone and let a staff member know immediately. Trying to catch or handle snakes is strongly discouraged. Science Specialist: Ms Carolyn Richer will be joining us for 2019 as the new Science Specialist. Ms Richer has experience in this role and comes highly recommended. We are all looking forward to her joining us next year. Count Us In: we had a fantastic performance from the whole school last week as they participated in Count Us In along with 700 000 other students across the country. We were very lucky to have a special guest speaker, federal member for Burt, Matt Keogh, who despite a basketball injury thoroughly enjoyed the performance and chatting with our students. Well done, Ms Hartley for organising another great whole-school event. DDSA Interschool Athletics: Well done to all of our fantastic participants in the DDSA Jumps and Throws Day and Athletics Carnival. Our students were excellent representatives of the school and Armadale PS came second to Kelmscott PS overall. Big thanks to staff for the extra training sessions for the students. Remembrance Day: This Sunday 11 th November is Remembrance Day. To acknowledge the day Ms Blundell will be taking our Student councillors to Araluen Gardens on Friday to take part in the Remembrance Day service. They will be laying a floating wreath on behalf of the school during this service. FIONA BLUNDELL PRINCIPAL

PAGE 2 ARMADALE PRIMARY SCHOOL Reminder to Parents Parents are reminded to be vigilant when their children are down near the stream area near the Ring Road. This can be a dangerous area for children to be playing especially as the water can be travelling quite quickly after heavy rain. There was an incident this week where a child did fall into the water and luckily a quick thinking adult was able to get them out. These things can happen in the blink of an eye so extra caution needs to be taken in areas that pose a greater risk to children. Music Notes Music Count Us In 2018 Last Thursday 1 st November (Week 4) we sang with a record 7000 000 students across Australia as we all sang the Music Count Us In song One Song. I sent home an audio recording of the whole school singing via a Connect notice to all families the day afterwards, so hopefully everyone has had a chance to log in to Connect and have a listen. We had Matt Keogh MP join us for the event and he was very impressed with our singing! End of Year Music Concert: Our school music concert will take place next Tuesday 13 th November at 6pm. The IMSS students in years 5 and 6, the School Band and the Ukulele Club will be performing. Current Year 4 students (and their families) who receive expression of interest form for IMSS 2019 may want to attend to see what the program is like! Ukulele Club: Ukulele Club is almost finished for the year! EVERYONE needs to come along in week 6 and 7 please. Even if you leave you ukulele at home please come along! Music sheets for the concert next Tuesday have gone home, so please make sure practice is happening! Keep singing! Ms Bree Hartley Dieback Excursion Looking through the eyes of Science The Year 6 students, along with Mr Devine, Ms Pollard, Mrs Paxton, Mrs Colquhoun and Environmental Officers from the City of Armadale, will be heading to Bob Blackburn Reserve on Friday the 23 rd November to inject trees against Dieback. Dieback is an infection that affects more than 40 per cent of the native plant species and half of the endangered ones in the south-west of Western Australia. The year 6 s have been learning about dieback in Term 3 and are excited to participate in what is such an important opportunity. The area that we will be treating is of high conservation value and is predominantly dieback free, so we are eager to help keep it that way. We invite any year 6 parents to come along and assist with this worthwhile experience. If you are interested, please respond using the permission slip that was sent home. PAGE 5 P&C and Community News ARMADALE PRIMARY SCHOOL P&C Uniform Shop Open Days Term 4 Wed 14th November 2.15pm 2.45pm Fri 30th November 8.00am 8.30am At all other times, you may complete an order form and, with payment, place it in the P&C blue box behind the Deputies' Office, where it will be filled and passed onto your child s class teacher. Please be reminded that payments to the P&C are cash or cheque only. School Banking day is Wednesday. Students should bring in their weekly deposit and place them into the Blue Box behind the Office. The box is padlocked; so you can place your bank books into the box any day of the week. School Banking Day is Wednesday, this is the day we process deposits, return the bank books and hand out rewards. For every deposit made at school, students will receive a silver Dollarmites token. Once students have individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for an exclusive School Banking reward item in recognition of their regular savings habits. School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year. If your child has lost their book, they can bring their money to school in a sealed envelope with a note on the next School Banking day. We will issue them with a replacement. Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at Armadale Primary School. We would also like to thank the wonderful parents who volunteer as our School Banking Co-ordinators and process our banking every week. If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2018 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking To the Parents of students attending Kelmscott Senior High School in 2019, I write to invite you to start thinking about your child's high school uniform requirements for 2019. The Kelmscott High School uniform shop is open three days a week during the school term, and you are welcome to visit us during our normal opening hours Monday and Wednesday mornings 8am to 10am and Thursday afternoon's 2 to 3.30pm. Fitting appointments are also available Tuesday 20 th & 27 th November and Friday 23 rd & 27 th November.
