The group united among common beliefs of limited government, equal representation, and inclusivity. The Party was founded in preparation of the following year s state convention, which was the birthplace of the North Carolina Constitution. In a historic measure, 19 African Americans were delegates to the convention out of the 107 Republican delegation. This was later cited as one of the important steps that led to the creation of the first Black Caucus. Republicans in North Carolina struggled on-and-off for the next 100 years amid terrible intimidation, white supremacy and Jim Crow tactics from Democrats. Beginning in the early 1970 s Republicans began to become competitive in statewide races. Now in its 150th year, Republicans have dominated the last four general elections. The Republican nominee for president has won North Carolina 9 of the last 10 times dating back to 1980. Currently, both of North Carolina s U.S. senators are Republicans, as are 10 of North Carolina s 13 members of the U.S. House. In 2016, for the first time ever, Republicans gained control of the Council of State winning the statewide offices of Lt. Governor, Treasurer, Agriculture, Insurance, Labor Commissioners, and the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Republicans also have supermajorities in both the State House and State Senate. In 2012 Republicans seized control of a majority of the State's County Commissions. Currently Republican County Commissioners control 55 of North Carolina s County Commissions. The Fight has begun for 2018 and control of the North Carolina General Assembly. Volunteer in your Precinct today! P A G E 4 Support President Trump s Tax Reform! Suggestions from the NC GOP on how you can get involved in this important battle! Click here for the links to sample letters & more ideas North Carolina Republicans have done a phenomenal job over the past six years reforming our tax code into a system that allows the vast majority of residents to keep more of their own tax dollars. Families in every income category have seen their taxes go down, and as a result, our state has become the nation's leader in tax relief. Budget deficits were turned into budget surpluses, and we now have a lower unemployment rate than the national average. While North Carolina has done an outstanding job of setting the stage for tax reform, the nation is lagging behind, and in order to keep pushing our state forward, the country has to go forward as well. The number one issue for the White House is tax relief, and President Trump is working hard to simplify the US tax code so that it can be fair and easy. He wants to provide tax-relief for the middle-class and keep American jobs in the US. In order to accomplish these tasks, Congress needs to step-up and work with the president to pass these new measures. We need YOU to put pressure on your congressman and congresswomen to work with President Trump on renewing an outdated system. In this email and attached documents you will find a list of activities your county party can use to help the grassroots effort for tax reform. We are also asking you to write letters to the editor of your local or statewide newspaper. Below are some LTE's that we've already drafted for you, as well as talking points in case you want to write your own. Please be sure to let us know if your letter is published so we can feature it and tell President Trump! TALKING POINTS President Trump s tax plan will bring back our jobs, bring back our wealth, and bring back our dreams. Lower taxes and higher wages will result in a better life for all Americans. The American Dream will be more accessible than ever before. We are going to end the rigged economy that has only benefited wealthy and powerful special interests. We will restore fairness by streamlining the tax code and closing special interest tax deductions and loopholes. We are going to put money back in the pockets of Forgotten Americans. We are going to deliver a pay raise for American workers. Wage growth has flattened over the past four decades. This cannot continue. This tax cut will ensure American workers keep more of their hard-earned money. The question for Congress is simple: Do you believe American workers deserve a raise? We are going to win again. Our business tax rate is the highest in the developed world we are dead last. Our rate is 16.4 percentage points higher than the worldwide average. By slashing America s business tax rate, we will once again make America the most desirable country for business formation and growth. We will be the great jobs magnet of the world.
