Education Week is in the third week of next term and once again the SCLC will present the Performing Arts Festival. This Festival culminates with 3 evening performances by all of the local public schools, sharing dance, music, song and drama on stage at the Bega Civic Centre. NAIDOC WEEK NAIDOC Week is recognised next week in schools. Our week is full of fun activities including hearing from some of our Indigenous Mums, Aunts and Nans. The theme: Because of her, we Can! is a wonderful stimulus for our students. POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS FOR LEARNING (PBL) Our school follows the student welfare pathway of PBL, supporting our students to develop the skills needed to be successful learners. The PBL program is based on our school values: RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, COOPERATION and FRIENDSHIP. The school holds a student assembly Monday mornings on a fortnightly basis where a focus area is discussed. This fortnight Mr Bennett talked to the students about safe play and keeping their hands and feet to themselves. Students are recognised in this assembly for outstanding behaviours from data collected by Teachers and a photo wall in the Hall indicates levels of individual achievement. Bega Valley Public School Girls Touch Football Team On Wednesday this week our students proudly represented our school against Tathra in Touch Football. The girls were victorious and played consistently to defeat Tathra 3-1. Many thanks to our parent helpers for transporting our students to and from the grounds and for their support during the game. We have now progressed in the competition and are through to the next round in Term 3. Well done to all our students for demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and supporting each other through the game. Well done! Mrs Roberts High Jump finals Bega Valley High Jump finals were held this week in preparation for tomorrow s carnival. Winners will be announced tomorrow at the carnival. NAIDOC Week The theme for NAIDOC week this year is Because of her we can. This recognises the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made and continue to make - to our communities, our families, our rich history and to our nation. As part of the NAIDOC week celebrations Bega Valley Public School will be holding a Colour Day and a Disco. Students are encouraged to wear a colour or colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flag. Please bring a gold coin donation as there will be a sausage sizzle available on the day. There will be lots of activities happening during the week. Please see the what s coming up section of this newsletter. Miss Scott
