This period of reflection and prayer is an excellent way to re-energize us for a strong finish to the school year. Advancement Happenings For the Advancement team the month of March was very busy. The first-ever Taste of the Town was a huge success raising nearly $27,000. Thank you to all our parents who joined us for this event that promises to be an annual success! On Friday, March 23rd, Beneficial Bank was our title sponsor of $25,000 for the Legacy Gala. Beneficial Bank was honored for their significant support of Catholic education and for their philanthropic work in the community. Over the past two years alone, Beneficial Bank has generously donated nearly $40,000 to the students of Nazareth Academy High School. Their commitment to Catholic education has allowed many Nazareth girls the opportunity to experience academic excellence while learning that it is of utmost importance to live a life in service to God and others. It was our privilege to also present the Legacy Award to Mrs. Marge Lafferty, our music department chair. It was a wonderful evening showcasing our students the jazz band performed, student leaders greeted our guests, and seniors Bernadette Breslin, Ruby Malak, and Liz Greubel shared how Nazareth Academy High School has transformed their lives. Final examinations will be administered in the Spring Semester for all classes. Any senior who has maintained an A- throughout a course may be exempted from a final examination with the teacher s permission. This is a privilege granted only to seniors unless the class is a prerequisite for a spring class. At the discretion of the teacher, students in AP classes need not sit for Final Examinations. Any student registered for an AP class is required to take the AP exam. The exam schedules are set for each academic year and it is imperative that no changes be made to the schedule. Any student who does not take her exam on the scheduled day will incur a 15 point deduction from the earned score. Student Life Mrs. Diane Budd Senioritis, senior slide, senior slump whatever you call it the urge to slack off in senior year can be overwhelming. Now that the pressure of college is off it can be easy to lose motivation and direction. What can you do as parents to keep your daughter s productive and with the right attitude? First of all, remind them that grades still matter. Colleges care about how they do in high school until the end. Colleges look at academic performance, lower grades and unexcused absences and can revoke their offer of admission. Declining grades at the end of high school can impact how much financial support they receive, and colleges can adjust that financial support when they see the final grade. Students should think of themselves as a college student in training. For most student s college is more academically challenging then high school, so they should use this last semester as a training ground for college. Work to improve techniques note-taking, time-management, refine writing skills. In this way they will be ahead when college starts. Nix bad habits before they start- once seniors fall into the slacker mentality it is hard to reverse, so stay focused. Focus on learning college credit, take AP courses in high school this can help place your daughters in advanced courses in college, leading to early graduation, and less tuition payments for you. Keep challenged and stimulated, take courses that interest them and choose electives in their favorite subjects. In this way they will stay focused and this may lead to choosing a major in college. Also, when goals are clear then motivation stays high. Seniors should set goals and ask themselves what they can do to achieve them. Do they need a specific GPA to maintain a scholarship or financial aid? And in the end take one day at a time. Encourage your daughters to slow down and stay focused on the here and now. Use their day planner, keep track of projects and assignments, concentrate on homework and studying for tests. Last but not least they should set aside some time for fun. After all they have worked hard for four years and have been accepted into college. They should plan to socialize with friends, and cherish their high school relationships. Avoiding senioritis means making decisions that will help them have a senior year that they can look back on knowing they made the most of things. Having this kind of senior year means recognizing all that they accomplished by making it this far. They should enjoy their final days and keep on top of things academically so they thrive in college. So parents - here's to a happy, productive, balanced, senioritis-free end to the semester!
