The College Information Center Standardized test information and preparation After-school PSAT academic reviews for freshmen Preparation for PSAT/SAT and ACT, both on-site at Lunch Bunch and one-to-one sessions, and in certain classroom situations Furnishing annotated versions of the PSATs and ACTs as preparation and as post-review
Notification to and encouragement of students about test registration deadlines, tutoring and review opportunities using flyers, teacher memos and Naviance Administration of the Word of the Day program for students in grades 7-12, as well as the Math Problem of the Week program

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Credit Requirements WHHS requires students to take and complete a minimum of 22 required credits. English language arts Health Mathematics (alg. I, geometry, alg. II) Physical education Science (biology, chemistry) Social studies (mod. world history, U.S. history, Amer. gov t, economics) Modern foreign language (2 consecutive years or a 4 th year of Latin) Fine art Minimum 4 units ½ unit 4 units ½ unit 3 units 3 units 2 units 1 unit Electives 4 units
A four-year planning guide is provided to each eighth-grader to help students look ahead to meeting graduation requirements. Plan to take five academic courses, an elective or other required courses, and one study hall each year. Pace yourself; don t save the toughest classes for senior year!

Choices, choices Modern foreign language? Continue with Latin? (colleges want to see foreign language every year of high school at least 3 years of the same one or 2-and-2). Competitive college majors (engineering, computer science) require more than just basic graduation requirements.
Nothing is set in stone.. As you sit down to discuss future courses, please encourage your child to choose the most rigorous classes in which she or he can be academically successful.
A few words about AA and AP Students should display academic tenacity as it relates to depth of the work, perseverance in problem solving, and willingness to put in time required to complete and understand new topics. For AA classes, a minimum of 45 minutes of nightly homework is typical.
Advanced Placement Classes Walnut offers 34 AP Courses Students should maintain As and Bs freshman year in order to apply for AP courses sophomore year Students must follow instructions and meet deadlines to apply for AP courses
Naviance another helpful tool Allows student to maintain ongoing files of career interests, personal inventories, and college exploration Can receive email blasts about scholarships, college visits, and other important information Parents create email accounts to view information, etc.
