WOMEN S CELL, NORTH GAUHATI COLLEGE (WC, NGC) ESTABLISHED: 2002 OBJECTIVES: 1. To generate awareness among the rural women folk regarding the various developmental schemes, policies and legal provisions in respect of women. 2. To create awareness among the women of surrounding areas about health, nutrition and child care. 3. To acquaint the rural women folk with food preservation and preparation of low cost balanced diet. 4. To educate people in general and women in particular for prevention of diseases like Malaria, TB and AIDS through awareness campaign and health camps in collaboration with primary health centre, local NGOs and District AIDS Prevention Unit. 5. To raise the level of literacy and to motivate women and girl students for accessing higher level of formal education. 6. To preserve local tradition and cultural heritage. 7. To preserve natural environment of North Guwahati area. 8. To observe national and international occasions falling in line with the objectives of women s cell. 9. To work to fulfill the objectives of Assam College Teachers Association. (ACTA). 3. Lecture on Right to Education Act 2009 (23.09.10) A lecture was organized for the students and faculties of the college in Room No. 8 on Right to Education Act 2009. Observation of World Environment Day (06/06/2011) A programme was organized on the occasion of World Environment Day at Abhaypur, Primary School, North Guwahati : The programme included : i) Speech on Significance of world Environment Day by Ms. Ellora Baruah, HOD, Dept. of Zoology, N. G. College. ii) Environmental Games conducted by Tapan Kr. Sarma, HOD, Physics N. G. College. 5. Visit to Sishugram : 03/11/12 Distribution of Clothes and sweets among the children. An interaction programme also was held in the orphanage centre, North Guwahati. 6. Exhibition Cum Cell An exhibition cum cell of the products made by the members of the cell and the girl students of the college was held during the Golden Jubilee Celebration of our College (18 20 Jan, 13) 5 P a g e
7. Student Empowerment programme : A lecture cum interactive session was organized for the students of the college (17.10.14) Resource Person : Meera R. Kulkarni State Coordinator Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari. The Programme was held in Swahid Dhanbar Das Auditorium of the college and attended by both the faculty and the students of TDC. The Resource person focused on the techniques of increasing the level of concentration, strengthening of memory power and on the importance of forming healthy habits. 6 P a g e

Visit to Sishugram : A Charity Endeavour (28.12.14) The members of the women cell make a visit to Sishu Gram at a regular interval, interact with the inmates and the mothers to know their needs and requirements and try to fulfill it.one of such visit was this where stationery and various items needed for work experience in their schools were supplied along with health drinks. 7 P a g e
9. Observation of World Environment Day (05/06/2015) World Environment Day was observed by WC, NGC at Rahdhala Prathomik Vidyalaya, a primary School under Rudreswar Gaon Panchayat, North Guwahati. The main purpose of the programme was to make the children aware to preserve and save our environment. The programme included : i) An Art Competition on the topic Our Environment ii) A lecture titled Our friend Tree by Dr. Sujata Deori, Asstt. Prof. Dept. of Geography. iii) An interactive session conducted by Banima Talukdar, Asoc. Prof. Dept. of Political Science. iv) Prize Distribution meeting chaired by the Head Teacher, Rahdhala Prathomik Vidyalaya. v) Light Refreshment. 8 P a g e

10. Awareness Campaign on Evils of Tobacco (18.08.2015) This campaign covered North Gauhati College and nearby areas.it had two parts. i) A rally by the students, faculty and non-teaching staff of NGC with anti-tobacco slogans, banners and play cards.it also made an appeal to stop using Shikhar, Rajanigandha and Vimal. ii) A lecture with Power Point presentation in Swahid Dhanbar Das auditorium was delivered by Dr. Nripati Kumar Kalita, Oncologist, Guwahati Medical College Hospital. He highlighted the evils of tobacco and presented the consumption of tobacco as one of the main causes for Cancer. Rodali a centre for cancer counseling and awareness who has been extending its service in the field of cancer for a long period, had come forward and collaborated for this human Endeavour taken up by WC, NGC. SEVENTH ANNUAL CONVENTION OF WOMEN CELL, ACTA Seventh Annual Convention of Women Cell, Assam College Teachers Association (ACTA) held in Nalbari College on 30 th September, 2015 was attended by the representatives of WC,NGC.
