With the cancellations that have occurred, our last day of school is now Friday, May 29. Our graduation commencement ceremony for the class of 2015 will take place on Saturday, May 30 at 11am in our high school gym. Senior Feature: Libby Tarr What has been your favorite class in high school? The communications class I am in with my dad. The skills we learn help with more than just that class. We have researched for stories and learned how to put them into our own words. I have learned about computers, camera work, how to make an outline for the shows, etc What has been your biggest challenge in high school? Time management with having to do sports, school, NHS (the service projects), it is hard to even have a social life. What are your plans after high school? I plan to go to Indiana State and major in MIS (Management Information Systems). What made you want to major in MIS? My cousin majored in this and told me about all the different jobs available. You could get a job in the business field or technology. I will also be participating in the honors program at ISU How were you selected ISU honors program? After I applied for Indiana State. I got a list of the automatic scholarships I qualified for and was also informed I qualified for the honors program. I will live Pickerl Hall which is the honors dorm. Do you have any advice for underclassmen? Work hard and get the best grades you can in high school. Take as many dual credit classes as possible to get the college credits, as many of my dad s or Ms. Bohnert s classes you can. I will have over 40 college credits when I graduate. What is it like having both of your parents as teachers in the building? It has benefits and drawbacks. It helps to have my math teacher as my mom so I can get help at home. It s tough too though because I can t get away with anything. If I say something in class in the morning I am hearing about it from my mom by lunch. I also will have both my parents as coaches this year too! Upcoming Home Sporting Events April 6... Meet Moriah Crane (ECA Treasurer) Why did you have an interest in working in a school setting? Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher but teaching jobs were hard to come by. After becoming interested in business while participating in Junior Achievement, I decided a degree in business would give me more career options. I worked in fashion merchandising and banking for several years. However the desire to help others learn and to have a schedule more suited to my family made me become a substitute teacher. That started me working in the school. I later became a teacher s assistant which allowed me to get to know the students better. I love seeing young people learning and want them to know they can accomplish anything they set their minds to if they are willing to work hard and not give up. What is one interesting fact about yourself that you would want students to know? That I was in a reality TV episode of the TLC show, Something Borrowed, Something New with my two daughters. It was a fun, crazy experience that enabled my daughter to wear a one of kind wedding dress that was made from my wedding dress when she got married. People always ask us how we got on the show. The answer; we just applied. It just goes to show you never know unless you try. Do you have a hobby or favorite past time? My favorite way to spend my free time is traveling. Whether it is in Indiana, the United States or a different country there is always something interesting to see and something to learn. Greene County is a very small part of a very big world. I love seeing different areas and cultures. I have been to Europe, South America and many places in North American and the United States. I am excited to be traveling to France over spring break with the French Club. Do you have a favorite college or pro team? I love IU and the Colts. I graduated from IU and was attending college when they won the National Championship in 1987. I still remember the excitement of that night. I have always enjoyed football and can remember when we didn't have a professional team in Indiana, so I will always be fond of the Colts. What is your favorite food? Well in general I like most food. My favorites are Thai food and sushi, but I love to try new things. I'm especially fond of food that is made from fresh, quality ingredients. What do you like best about working s the ECA treasurer at EGHS? I feel very blessed to have gotten the opportunity to be the ECA Treasurer at EGHS. It allows me to stay in a learning environment while enabling me to utilize all the business skills I have acquired in my past. It also gives me the chance to learn new things, and that's always exciting to me. Thunderbird Beat Page 4

This community service project is led by three Greene County high school students and the Greene County Foundation's Women of Worth. The high school that collects the most shoes will win the Greene County Foundation Community Service Award. The shoes collected will be sent to third world countries. Clean out those closets and let us have those shoes you haven't worn in months/years. Our used shoe collection box is located right next to our front office if you want to make a donation. The drive lasts from now through March 20.

During the month of April, Indiana high school and college students can put their social media skills to good use for a chance to win a $5,000 scholarship toward their college education or any secondary schooling. Last year, we granted $85,000 to student award winners! Texting and driving is against the law in Indiana but, it's still happening. The use of cell phones is constant in today s society, especially with young drivers. 71% of teens and young people say they have sent a text while driving and 78% say they have read a text while driving (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).Because of these alarming statistics, five state agencies have joined efforts to help raise awareness of the dangers of texting and driving by sponsoring the Drive Now. TXT L8R social media contest. With your help, we hope to spread the word about this contest to students across the state. Please share Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann s message to young Hoosiers about the Drive Now. TXT L8R contest with anyone you know currently in highschool, college or other secondary education institution. Visit www.txtl8r.in.gov for more information about the contest, including rules, FAQs and a link to the registration page. You can also download our campaign logo and fliers from this website to send to anyone you think might benefit from a $5,000 of education assistance. Students have until April 10 to register for the social media contest. Thank you for helping us spread the word about this campaign and contest. We look forward to viewing the entries in early May and honoring the winners and their schools during a ceremony at the Statehouse in June.
