It gives me much pleasure and joy on behalf of all of the staff to welcome each student to school this week. Yenda Public School is a vibrant and inclusive community, and we are privileged to work with our students and families through the Primary School years. Every student is on a different learning journey, but what does different mean? Being different means not being afraid to challenge the norm; being willing to take a chance; asking why; making your own track, not just following the well-trodden path; chartering your own course and destiny. In short, it is being the person you are meant to be. The team at Yenda Public School are dedicated to ensuring that each student reaches his or her full potential academically, socially and emotionally. This is a wonderful opportunity for all students, who are often inspired by the work ethic and values of professional athletes. is held in the School Hall every second Friday during the school term. Assembly is a time to showcase student achievement and performance, as well as, celebrate school successes. Assembly is run from 9am to 10am. All families and community members are invited to attend. Occasionally, there are special presentations made at Assembly. We strive to notify community members in advance. Best Start Assessments Children come to school with different levels of literacy and numeracy. Some are familiar with books, can recognise some letters, even write their name or count to ten, while others have not yet learned these skills. Our Kindergarten teachers have always observed their new students and used different methods to find out what each child knows and can do so that they can plan and teach what their students need to learn. Our school takes part in Best Start developed by early learning experts in the Department of Education. Best Start gives our teachers, and those teaching Kindergarten across New South Wales, a common set of high quality assessment tools and professional training. We believe that Best Start will build on the strengths of our teachers and give your child an even better start to school. Page 3

The Good Morning Club We will once again be running the Good Morning Club, and invite all interested students to come to the Canteen area on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 8.30 for a piece of toast, chat and a smile. There is no cost due to the very kind donation of bread from Vaccari s Bakery each week. School Canteen The YPS School Canteen operates on Tuesday s and Friday s for recess and lunch time. Please see the attached price list and menu for orders. Students are able to use reusable lunch bags, which can be purchased from the canteen, or paper bags for their orders. A canteen list will be sent home in the coming weeks. Sport Shirts Have you got yours? Due to the previous sport shirt design being discontinued, YPS students are now required to wear a new shirt on sport days. Thanks to Yenda Producers, all students enrolled at YPS in 2018 have been sponsored for a new sport shirt, which is available from Active Workwear in Banna Avenue, Griffith. Pop on in to Active Workwear to try on different sizes, and to order your child s sport shirt. Students are able to wear their previous sport shirt until they get a new one. Echo Educational Support Dog Echo the Assistance Dogs Australia trained Educational Support Dog returns to Yenda Public this year, to continue her work supporting all students in their learning. Echo spends time in the playground and classrooms with students, bringing a fun and innovative element to learning. This year, Echo will be presenting an Award at to students who have worked with her in the classroom or the playground. How to Install Skoolbag on your Smartphone Iphone and ipad users 1.
