School Attendance With the commencement of a new term I would like to remind all families of the importance of students attending school every day. Regular attendance at school is a major contributor to academic success. Students who attend school regularly have a greater chance of achieving to their full potential and being socially connected. If we were to calculate the impact on a child missing school one day per week this would add up to: 41 days per year is equal to 8 weeks a year Over a five year period this would equal one entire year of school missed. Regular absences such as this can cause significant disadvantage to a child s opportunities in life. Attending school every school day for the whole day enables students to participate in the school s education program as well as develop their social skills. Every day at school is an important learning day. Pleasure ensure you child attends school regularly to give them the best opportunity for a successful future. If your child is ill and unable to attend school please contact the staff, and upon return, please complete the written explanatory note. Absence Notes A reminder that the government requires all absences to be approved via a written communication with the school. Remember It s Not OK To Be Away. As you know students from our school, and Jamieson Primary School have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. 3

The first batch of 300 seedlings will be sent before 25 April. The second and third batches are already in pots and are busy growing to a suitable size for planting during the Anzac Centenary 2015-2018. Our tree will be here before Anzac Day. A site for it needs to be determined, where it can grow without being interfered with. 6
