QAGOMA) On Wednesday, June 20 our whole school will be attending an excursion to QAGOMA. June 15 17 20 22 27 29 Free Dress Day Softdrink donation for Fete St Brendan s/st Pius X School Parish Mass 9am at Salisbury Church; URGENT WORKING BEE 10.30am Whole School Excursion to QAGOMA; Fete Planning Meeting 7.00pm at the Salisbury Hotel Fete Pre-loved and Vintage Goods drop off day; Yr 1 Excursion to Lone Pine Reports home Last day of Term 2 July 16 Term 3 begins Ms Nicholson has organized this excursion and all costs associated with this excursion have been kindly donated by QAGOMA. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and staff and an experience I whole-heartedly support. Please look for permission forms that were sent home today and return them to the school office no later than Friday June 15. QAGOMA have requested permission to document the excursion by taking photographs of the students and the activities they experience. Please ensure that the three-page permission form from QAGOMA is also returned to school as soon as possible. Thank you to Ms Nicholson for all her work behind the scenes in making sure this day is a very special one for our kids. Queensland NAPLAN Review Consultation with Parents The Queensland Department of Education has instigated a review to identify the key issues raised in the Queensland community, specifically by parents, about NAPLAN. The Queensland Department of Education has engaged with independent reviewers to consult with parents and parent organisations from the three schooling sectors - State, Catholic and Independent. The data collection for this consultation review is occurring in two ways: 1. 2. Online Survey Parent Forums Please find with this Newsletter an information flyer advertising opportunities for parents to provide feedback and raise any concerns that you may have about NAPLAN.

Child Care Storage Facility no longer available! For many, many years, we have had the luxury of using the space on the ground floor of St Brendan s Child Care as a P&F storage space. For a number reasons that space is no longer available to us and we need to vacate the premises by the end of this term. This space has traditionally been used to store excess P&F furniture, fete signage, fete paraphernalia, Trash n Treasure goods and limited amounts of old furniture. A short-term solution to this space not being available for use has been hiring a temporary and removable P.O.D that has been delivered and placed on the Brier Street side of the hall. This POD will be used from now until just after the fete to store all of the Trash n Treasure (now to be called Pre-Loved and Vintage Goods Stall) stuff. Before this can occur everything that has already been donated and stuff previously used by the P&F for the fete needs to be relocated to the POD and/or disposed of before the end of this term. A decision was made at last night s P&F Meeting to schedule an URGENT Working Bee on Sunday June 17 from 10.30am. This Working Bee will occur directly after the combined St Pius X and St Brendan s School Parish Mass, which is being held at St Pius X Church from 9am on this same day. We need many families to lend a hand to empty the space underneath the Childcare Centre and relocate what is still required to the POD or dispose of it in the skip that will be located outside the childcare centre. This is an URGENT request for many helpers to make this job as simple and as quick as possible many hands make light work! If you are able to help on Sunday June 17 can you please call the office and let us know that you can help and how many people from your family will be able to give their time. We welcome any help the children can provide as well! 2018 St Brendan s Community Bash News: Our first fete fundraiser for 2018 is just around the corner. We have a free dress day scheduled for Friday June 15 and we ask that each child brings a can and/or carton of soft drink as the donation for wearing free dress. Please remember that it is essential for all children to wear closed in shoes and sun safe clothing with their school hats on all free dress days. On behalf of the P&F I would like to thank you in advance for your generous support of our first fete fundraiser and I hope there will be lots of soft drink brought to each classroom to be sold on fete day. Combined Catholic School Choir Rehearsal Today we had the privilege of hosting all of the schools that participate in the Combined Catholic Schools Choir Festival that is held in September of each year. It was the first day of rehearsals and the first day that this group gathered in preparation of this big event. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and certainly a great privilege to be able to share this wonderful school with approximately 350 students and 30+ extra staff. Our students and staff were excellent hosts and I am so pleased to be able to take our turn in hosting this rehearsal day.

A HUGE thank you must go to Mrs Emmerson and Mr Gerrard who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this day a success. They have worked on the logistics of hosting this many people on our small school site and the logistics of feeding the mass of extra visitors for the day thank you to you both for the wonderful work you have done to make this day the success it has been. Special thanks must also go to our wonderful parent volunteers for working tirelessly to feed this many extra people on our site. The profits from the sale of the Sausage Sizzle meal deal go directly to our school P&F. Thank you everyone for your wonderful support. Mrs Emmerson and the children have been working really hard to learn the repertoire of songs that is expected and all of the quirky moves that go with some of these songs. Thank you to Mrs Emmerson and all the children for their hard work and dedication to this great event. I look forward to attending every year and this year is no different I can t wait! Winter has arrived! There are many in our school community who are currently struggling with coughs, colds and flu. A request please, that parents/carers keep unwell children at home where germs are best contained and recuperation is best served. Term 3 Planning Now that semester reports are nearing completion, our dedicated staff are gearing up for some intense curriculum planning in preparation for Term 3 teaching and learning. This work is of high importance to staff and receives strong priority in the budget. All students can expect to be involved in rich learning experiences from the very commencement of Term 3. Thank you to all teaching staff for their continued dedication and commitment to the teaching and learning of all students at St Brendan s. 2019 Prep Interviews Prep 2019 interviews are continuing and I am thrilled to say that we will be welcoming some wonderful new families to St Brendan s in 2019. There are still vacancies available in our Prep class for 2019 so if you know anyone who has children eligible for enrolment in Prep in 2019, i.e. Born 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014 (inclusive), please encourage them to contact the office for an enrolment form or to book an interview as a matter of urgency. Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (ie. NCCD) Schools across Australia participate annually in a national data collection on school students with disability. It is important to note that all Australian governments have agreed to this data collection process. We ask all parents to read the attached document if you do not wish your child s information included in the collection, please email the school office (pmoorooka@bne.catholic.edu.au) as soon as possible. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Catherine Meiklejohn Support Teacher Inclusive Education at our school office. I pray that you all have a terrific week. May God s blessings be with you and your families today and always! Take care and God bless always In Faith and Love Nicole Cole Principal

Religious Education Family Mass - Just a reminder that on the Sunday 17th of June, we hope to have as many children as possible singing at St Pius X 9am mass. A note will go home soon to ask for people to share readings, carry the gifts and share some prayers. Please keep this date in mind. With reporting intensely on the mind of our teachers, we can be assured that your child's Religious Education receives the same rigorous attention as the other subjects they learn. Religion plays a big part in our lives, believer or not, as many cultures and governments based their value system around the religions of the world. It is important for the children to have a sound understanding of the positive impact being a religious person can have in their lives. Naturally at St Brendan's we strive for the children to develop a Christian view of their world and we give them many opportunities to understand and take part in the Catholic faith so that they may be guided by our faith and bring them closer to God.
