ST. PETER S ANGLICAN PRIMARY SCHOOL TERM 4 WEEK 8 2 Class Orientation As has become our custom and practice, students met with their new classes and teacher for 2018 yesterday. This is an excellent occasion and significantly reduces unnecessary anxiety in our students. We welcomed the many new students joining our school next year, and the new teachers who will guide the student learning. We particularly welcome back Mrs Levi (Prep) and Mrs George (Year 6). We also welcomed Mr Richards (Year 5), Miss Nguyen (Year 2), Miss Nichols (Year 1) and Mr Raft (Director of Primary) Parents and Friends Association At the final meeting for 2017, parents were advised that the Schools Council had determined to change the operation of the P&F from the commencement of 2018. Following legal advice into the structure of our association, it was discovered that our structure presented some challenges that were best resolved by allowing policy, finances and child protection requirements to operate under the St Peter s umbrella. What does this mean? From 2018, we will still have a group of parents (all parents are welcome) who will meet, brainstorm and plan for significant fundraising and community events within the school. They will work closely with the School Executive and be supported by School Staff. Our key events such as the Spring Fair and Trivia Night will continue and we will still be seeking parental involvement, collaboration and assistance in many ways. Our focus, as has been the case in 2017, will continue to be an education or guest speaker focus, with opportunity for parental feedback, suggestions and the like always available. Meeting dates for 2018 have been included in the hard copy printed calendar which all families will receive shortly. If you have any queries regarding this change, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Gorman. I would like to once again thank the 2017 Committee under the capable leadership of Mr Peter Buckley and Mrs Kate Stares for their effective leadership and carriage of the P&F throughout this year. We are also pleased to announce that through the many fundraising efforts of our P&F throughout 2017, we have raised close to $20,000. Over the past few years, the P&F have contributed funds towards our Prep playground, Maths and Reading Resources, Library furniture and our LED screen at the front of the school. These efforts are the envy of many schools and we appreciate all who have contributed to this amazing effort. We look forward to all that 2018 will bring within our parent community. Staffing Update Mrs Patricia Hamilton will be finishing her time at St Peter's at the end of next week after many years of faithful service. We thank her for her significant contribution and wish her well in her future endeavours. Mrs Lana Schwigtenberg will assume the Coordination of all facets of OSHC. Presentation Evening A final reminder that our Annual Presentation Evening will be held at The Cube in Campbelltown on: Monday, 4 December 2017. Junior Primary will commence at: 5.00 pm Primary will commence at: 7.00 pm Attendance is compulsory and it will great to have everyone there as we celebrate the achievements of 2017. Dress Code: All students should be in Full Summer Uniform. Walking Hats are not required. Sibling Care: Students (siblings) not involved in a presentation can be cared for in another area of the Cube. Students will need to be signed in and out by their parent/ caregiver. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the School Office. Amazing Race Amazing Day! What an amazing time was had by Year 6, the teachers and parent helpers on Tuesday. Students participated in a range of team challenges which developed their knowledge of French and German culture and food! Students completed their own Tour de France, Foosball team training, discovered French artists, built an Eiffel Tower, enjoyed board games based around Germany and France, and baked delicieux food. The Bûche de Noël, Croissants, Brezeln, and Lebkuchen were all Lecker! The students are to be commended on their fabulous behaviour and manners. Our thanks go to Frau Weir, Mr Douglas, Mr Watson, Mr Van der Mast, Mr Fortescue and Mrs Faron for all their work in making our day a success! We hope Year 6 have been inspired to continue their Languages journey in High School and beyond. Madame Meallonnier & Frau Holmes Uniforms in 2018 A reminder that from 2018 all students must have all uniform items with the current School Crest. Class Parties Classes may celebrate the end of the year in a variety of ways. Your child s teacher will let your children know today what will be required for next week. If students would like to give gifts and cards out to their friends, we would appreciate them doing this on the last day of school. Thank you for your understanding and support. School Shop Holiday Opening Times 2018 The School Shop will be open during the holidays on the following days: Thursday, 18 January 2018: 9.00 am 3.00 pm Friday, 19 January 2018: 9.00 am 3.00 pm OSHC New Opening Time 2018 At the beginning of 2018, we will be trialing a new opening time for OSHC. From: Tuesday, 30 January 2018, Before School Care will be opening at 6.45 am. Based on the student numbers in the first month, a decision will then be determined whether these hours will be made permanent. Australian STEM Video Game Challenge This year students in Stage 3 competed in the Australian STEM Video Game Challenge. Pray for each student moving on from St Peter s, that they would continue to be challenged and learn. Pray particularly for our Year 6 students, that as they move on from St Peter s, they will remember the important things they have learned at St Peter s, that God loves them and has a plan for their lives. The School Prayer Jesus, our Master and our Friend. You came to show us the truth and to teach us the way of life; Send your blessing on our School. Guide by your Spirit, the children and their parents, the teachers and staff, and the Schools Council. As we work together with one another and with you, may St Peter s Anglican Primary School be a place where children learn and where all discover the true meaning of Life through Christ.
