2014-2015 Registration Off to a Great Start! Students and their parents need to understand that what happens in high school really counts. Course selection and grades help determine what opportunities will be available upon graduation from high school and beyond. 1
Standard Diploma Requirements In order to graduate, students in Florida must earn a minimum of 24 credits: English 4 credits Mathematics 4 credits (Algebra EOC 30% Must Pass, Geometry EOC 30%) Science 3 credits (Biology EOC 30%) Social Studies 3 credits (World History, US History, US Government & Economics) Fine Arts and Performing Arts, Speech and Debate, or Practical Arts 1 Credit Physical Education 1 credit (HOPE) Electives 8 credits Virtual Course (at least one of the above courses must be taken online) Cumulative Unweighted GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale State Assessment Requirements Must pass 10 th grade FCAT 2.0 Must pass Algebra 1 EOC 2
Merit Designation All Requirements of the Standard Diploma plus Student pursuing a merit designation must use elective to attain one or more industry certifications Scholar Designation All Requirements of the Standard Diploma plus Must pass Grade 11 th English Language Arts Assessment (when administered) Statistics (or equally rigorous course) Must pass Biology 1 EOC Chemistry or Physics Must pass US History EOC 2 credits in the same foreign language Must earn one AP, IB, AICE, or Dual Enrollment course credit 3
Online Learning Credit One Course Students entering 9 th grade in the 2011-2012 school year and after, must complete at least one course within the 24 credits required through online learning. Current 9 th graders will be receiving this credit through their HOPE class. Students must take a complete course to meet the virtual requirement. This could be a full or half credit depending upon the length of the course. Driver s Education does not count towards the online learning requirement as of July 1, 2013. What is the End Of Course Assessment? EOC assessments are computer-based assessments that measure the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards. Students entering 9 th grade in the 2014-2015 school year must earn a passing score on the Algebra 1 EOC Assessment in order to earn a standard diploma. You must take the Algebra 1 EOC, Geometry EOC, Biology EOC, and United States History EOC for 30% of your overall grade in the course. 4

Honors Criteria Students who meet one of the criteria listed below can take an Honors or AP level course. Grades grade of C or better in the previous honors course grade of A in the previous standard FCAT Level 4 or 5 on Reading FCAT and not less than a level 3 in Reading or Math FCAT Norm Referenced Test Stanine of 7, 8, or 9 on an English/Reading assessment. Dropping a Course If a student is enrolled in a full-credit course, the student may NOT drop the course until the end of the semester and only if the following conditions exist: Has a grade of D or F Completion of a parent conference during each grading period Demonstration of the student seeking consistent academic assistance Space available in a comparable course 11

World Language is very difficult to get as a freshman due to limited space. Registration Schedule Completed forms are due at your Registration Appointment.
